Getting Research + Clinical Experience

hey guys, im a freshmen in UCR right now trying to looking for some research and clinical experience. Since im aobut 15min away from the loma linda medical school, i was wondering if its possible to possibly get research + shadowing there? If so, what would be the best approach for me? Should i just email the faculties there telling them what i want? Or is that too direct?
