Getting to defer...

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i think it depends on what you want to do.... and certain schools insist that they don't allow it at all (BU), but if you had a good enough reason, it would be worth a shot anyway. what were you thinking of deferring for? the best idea would be to just call admissions offices of schools you're interested in and checking... also, do a search about deferring on SDN. there are threads from before (i think i posted a few.... i'm deferring a year 😉)...

I would be defering to wait on my girlfriend (who will be my fiancee at the time of the deference) to graduate. That is the real reason, but I could come up with others like foreign mission trips or something like that.

I think it really just depends on the school. I deferred last year because my boyfriend got a job overseas and I wanted to go with him for a year and then he was going to come back with me. I just wrote an honest letter about my family/personal life being important to me and that relationships in med school are difficult enough without unnecessary time apart. I had no problems. I would suggest calling your school and asking what their policy on deferring is. Good luck! 🙂
