Getting to the main idea?! Help

This is so frustrating, I feel like I am doomed with verbal reasoning. I guess a lot of the time I have problems getting the main idea of the passages. I read though the passages and think they are talking about one thing, and then apparently I am way out in right field. What can I do to improve my darn verbal score?! I am going the the TPR practice passages right now (about 3 per day or so...only on passage 6 haha) and I have done 8 of the EK 101 verbal exams (consistently scoring around 9 or 10). I took AAMC exam 5 the other night and scored an 8 on verbal. I am freaking out! My exam is in almost 1 month (May 27) and I feel like I will never improve. What should I do?
