So I'm posting in hope someone could help me. I'm a medicine gal and my SO is in love with surgery. He is an American who went to Caribbean for Med school. He had to take 1.5 year medical leave for his own health and a family members health (it was serious, prolonged icu stay, etc). Now he is considered a fourth year not having taken step 2 CK yet. He passed everything else with no failures in classes or rotations.
My question to y'all is this- 1. Is there even a chance this year to get into a spot out side the match(he didn't register this year given the health issues and lack of step 2) and 2. Is general surgery still an option?!
Mind you I will be a fellow next year in an internal Med subspecialty. Any advice good/bad/ugly is appreciated!
