A friend of mine is getting ready to apply to glaucoma fellowships this summer. She is geographically limited to Los Angeles are but is a very strong candidate. He top choices would be Doheby, UCI or Jules Stein. Any opinions on these programs? Strengths/weaknesses? Non-academic job opportunities after?

Thanks for your time!

Doheny
4 Attendings, 2 with full clinics and 2 with partial. A ton of scut work. Lots of surgical experience and time at LA County. Only 1 fellow but enough work for 2.
Stein
5 Attendings. Lots of surgery, varied experience including peds. 2 fellows often with a third paid from outside funding (eg military).
UCI
3 attendings but 2 of them have very little volume. Fewer surgical numbers than the other two programs. Only 1 fellow, not enough volume for 2.

All have call and staffing of residents.
