I know glycolysis produces ATP for energy, but are there any other functions for it?

The exact question is: Is glycolysis solely for energy generation? Why/why not?

Thanks for helping...I have a test at 9:00 tomorrow and I'm cramming. 🙁

the point of glycolysis is to make pyruvate pretty much, the initial steps in energy production. The direct energy production is minimal compared with the overall energy production of respiration in humans (w/ the exception of RBC's which only go to lactic acid if i remember right) There are plenty of important side reactions and alternate pathways, like glutathione and NADPH production as anti-oxidants in RBC's. I'm sure it happens in other cells, that's just the major one i remember learning about it in. haven't done this since last year, so my facts might be slightly off.

I think that is probably a bit beyond what you need though, if u're talking general bio.
