    hey SDNers.

if you were flying to new york (from seattle) for an interview, do you think it would be appropriate to call all the medical schools you applied to in new york to see if they plan to interview you? that way, you can save some $$.

or would this be presumptuous and hurt your chances of acceptance?

i do not want to fly back and forth from seattle to new york multiple times.

thanks in advance. i love this forum :->

Welcome to SDN, Mimi!! :) Definitely call, but don't get your hopes up. Some schools are helpful, and some aren't. Mt Sinai definitely wasn't last year, but Albany was when I was calling to try to coordinate with my Columbia interview. It took Albany a while to get back to me on it, so don't give up hope even if at first they don't seem cooperative. Most schools just say they will make a note to your file that you will be in the area at such-and-such a time, but that it won't speed up review of your file. Good luck with your interview and with coordinating travel plans. :)

Very common. Although it doesn't always work, it's worth a try.

I received an interview invite in the St. Louis area and had applied to another school in the area i had not heard from. I called the school and gave them plenty of advance notice of when I was going to be in the area. They called back the next day and said that that my file had been reviewed and that I would be offered an interview and that I could interview the day after my other interview. It's OK to call and it might work out and if it does it saves you lots of money and time. It's worth the shot!

They greased the wheels on my U of Utah interview to coincide with my *ahem* ski vacation at Park City.... Downright nice of 'em; saved me from having to buy another airline ticket.
