Hi.

I was wondering what do u think makes a good ER doc, asside from being interested in emergency medicine. I am wondering if there is some specific skill you need to be able to be a good ER Doc.

work hard, play hard, take initiative, think fast, use common sense, some like to fly in helicopters more than others, deal with whoever comes through the door...executives to homeless, all at their worst. Most of us dislike rounding for hours on end. It takes a certain kind of person because you don't spend your life developing long-term relationships with your patient...if you do your job right (and they can actually access the healthcare system!) you hope that you send them out of your ED and won't see them again for a long, long time...
