my lab uses both nikon and zeiss light microscopes. IMO i liked the zeiss micoscopes a lot better. I'm not sure about the cost though... If you go to the labs at school, I'm sure you can find out from them. When I need a microscope, I will call up my lab and ask my old boss for advice.
