For those of you who are waiting for the March 15th day when schools have a full class and then place people on a waiting list, well.....
Almost all schools have pushed that date back till April 15th due to the AMCAS nightmare.

Plus they have extended the application deadline to students who applied late due to all the AMCAS mail went through BRentwood post office which was closed due to Sept 11 and Anthrax. I was told by a med school that AMCAS has 1000's of transcriots in the mail seized by the government due to anthrax. Applicants have had to send new ones so almost all the schools are still accepting late applications due to this problem. These students had to have applied to AMCAS before the deadline, but AMCAS wasn't able to submit their applications to the schools before the school's deadlines. This year continues to be messed up.

ummm....i acutally think that is a good thing, at least for someone like me who has yet to receive an interview! But that is very frustrating for those that have already interviewed and now may have to wait an extra month to find out if they got in or not. hang in there guys.

anyhow, good luck to everyone !!

Is this official though? Id really like it if the schools divulge this info to all applicants, so we all just dont HOPE they extend the deadlines.

Are they going to tell us this officially? That March 15th deadline is part of the "gentleman's" agreement that we have with the schools and that the schools have with us.

Does this also mean that we can hold more than one acceptance past May 15th and take longer than 2 weeks to make up our minds after that as well?

It would be nice for them to communicate directly with us, but that probably will not happen.

Maybe I'm really off but isn't the date May 15th, not March 15th?

I'm quite curious where you get the information from AMy Beth. Seems as if all the schools that I have been to are right where they need to be. Have you heard this on interviews at specific schools? If so, which ones?

altaskier--the "they tell us" date is supposedly 3/15, while the "we tell them" date is 5/15. It's just a "recommendation" by AMCAS anyway. So do you think some schools that usually do all of them that week (Yale, for instance, who made a big point about how they were not behind) will go ahead and at least make some decisions in March?

    altaskier-

March 15th is the date schools are supposed to have accepted a number of people at least equal to the number of spots in their class.

May 15th is the date that applicants have to decide on one school and decline other acceptances.

Hope that helps answer your question.

OK... I didn't know about the March 15th deadline. I don't think there is anyway some schools are going to be able to adhere to March 15th with all the complications this year. I'm happy to hear they've extended this deadline.

I was told this by a member of the admissions department at the med school I applied to. I was meeting with them to check my status.

Megkudos is correct the March date is the day they were suppossed to have offered positions to all the class. And May 15 is the day you are suppossed to let only one school know you are coming. :p
