Dear SDN,

I come on here and see that people type paragraphs hoping for positive attention from everyone that reads it because all we really want is approval! So I will make this nice and concise so everyone can get the important info and tell me my chances

Background:

-White male 22
-senior @ state university I was accepted else where but wanted to stay close for my family

College Work:

-Exercise Science and Human Performance Major
-Science Minor
-Gerontology Minor
-cGPA: ~3.6 and am on course to graduate with honors
-sGPA: ~3.75
-MCAT: Have not taken but I am great with standardized tests have have been scoring on practice tests ~25 - 30 fairly consistent

Extra Curricular Activities:

~600 hours volunteering @ ED
~100 hours volunteering working with children to inform them about health etc
~co-captain for the mens rugby team 3 years
~Various medical organization memberships and attended multiple conferences

Misc Section: Internships

~500 hours research @ MS research center
~350 hours research @ NYDOH (ny department of health) working with virus outbreaks and determining strands etc

You seem to have everything for an MD/DO program up to the MCAT. I suggest taking it and choosing from there. Generally, I'd say 24+ is good for DO. 28-32 is good to apply to both MD and DO. If you want exclusively MD, you'll need a 33+.

I am actually leaning toward DO regardless it has always been something that has seemed to fit more of my style of learning and what not.. The MCAT is definitely the deciding factor at this point that I am aware of!

I do have one question.. my organic class was a 4 credit but my uni combinded both there 1st and 2nd level of orgo into the one that I am taking at the moment (last pre-req) so im not sure what i should do about that

Well, you need 8 units, so you'll have to take another one or contact each school you apply to. It could be that they will ask you for biochemistry as a way of meeting that requirement.

Yeah it is just a random restructure of the chemistry department it is like "fundamental organic chemistry" and than the next level they have is synthesis of organic compounds but they added some higher level classes strictly orgo geared which is cool
