USC sent me a letter, it basically said "your application is in the third, but most critical stage of review" and then it said I was in the top third of their applicant pool, It said there was not going to be any interview... just a review of my aadsas file...

I know for a fact they do interviews... is this a polite way of rejecting me? or it too late in the game to give out interviews?

Got the same letter but would rather go anywhere else than do the PBL. I'm more or less writing them off. Its not worth the cost.

Me too... I am not super keen on USC, but do you know why they are doing that. Why no interiview? It's discrimination, everyone deserves an equal shot if they have decent stats.

You moron. It's not discrimination, you can't just throw that word around. Every school has their choice to interview you or not. It is not your right. Plus, if their class is full, they are doing you a favor since you sent in you applied too late.

There is no need to call me a moron... and perhaps I phrased it incorrectly, but not giving an interview, even if it does help me, it isnt fair to people who did have the same stats as me, who had to go there for an interivew. thats what i meant by it could be discrimination of sorts... and its school policy for them to conduct interivews, is says on their website, thats why i made the remark.

Also I applied Oct 26th, which is late, but not the last bunch of applicants

Omahaha... WTF?, you need to chill, I am sure dentist_to_be is smarter than you are (just look at how late he/she applied and still got into many schools).

dentist_to_be I agree with you, because USC's secondary application fee is $165US (for us Canadians) and is something redisicilous for US applicants too. They should conduct the applicantion procedure the way they said they will, or give us our money back. Can't leave us like that after cashing our nice juicy checks and MOs.

They charge us $165 US for visa processing but if we don't get accepted, don't they have to refund a portion of our money??? @#@#ing admissions...

USC is one of the fxxxed up schools from my experience of applying. They sent me a letter a long time ago. The letter went to my old address, got returned to them and then they asked me about my current address in the email, sent again after a month and I finanlly got it couple weeks ago. I didn't even know how they got my old address, because that was two years ago. The more insane thing is that the letter was asking me which program was my 75$ check going to, dental or medical. If I didn't apply to the dental program, how did they know I was an applicant. Stupid! I don't wanna go there anyways!

Haha, what is this? Canadians sticking up for each other? Yes, I'm sure every Canadian is smarter than every American.

She had an opinion, and so did I. Deal with it.

I'm not sure of all of us, but I know from personal experience: put a Canadian student in an American school and we will dominate.

Lets not start a war over this, Kiluminati, you better check your sources, if Canadian Universities' GPAs were inflated, then it would show in our DAT scores right?
I think Canadian and American students can perform at the same level at the DAT.
I did both the American and Canandian DAT, and scored 20/19 on both (exacts same scores in every section but PAT).
And who brought race into this, Asians could be Canadians and Americans, so lets leave race out of this.
I truely think both Canadian and American Universities have comparable levels of teaching. If you want, generate a new thread and lets see what happens.
By the way, I did not stick up for dentist_to_be cuz he/she is a Canadian. I just thought calling people names is not acceptable (moron), check the forum usage policies.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.... buddy please check your facts. The same american education association that accused harvard of inflating grades... accused my school of DEFLATING GRADES.

Also... the DATs are a very good indicator! I hardly studied for them and I got a 21, i did bad on perception as a result of not studying... but that tells you something about the education here. I didnt need to study for the academic portion of the DATs.

And every student I know in Canada ... loves standarized tests because they rely on them to compensate for the lower GPA.

Hey, I got that letter also. I dont think they meant that they were going to review your application and decide without interview, i think they were just clarifying that you have not yet been offered one. I believe this is the final reivew of the application BEFORE they either offer you an interview or not. I think because they take time to process the applications and what not, they're just trying to keep you posted. Good luck!

Actually the opposite is true. Competetion is EXTREMELY fierce in this country, we have too many pre-meds/pre-dents/pre-laws/pre-nursing/etc that getting a good grade is very difficult. Not to mention we only have some 10 or so schools with professional programs and a limited number of seats. You will not find a single Canadian school with avg incoming DATS lower than 20. This is the reason we so mnay of us going to the US for professional study.

If competition is so fierce in Canada, why are you Socialists? If you guys were a little more competitive, then you wouldn't be living under the United States' nuclear umbrella and would be able to take care of yourselves...Canadians just have an inferiority complex when comparing anything to the USA.

i'm sorry to bring this discussion back to usc's letter, but does anyone know if that means usc is not offering any more interview slots?

I too received a similar letter more than a week ago. However, mine doesn't say anything like ... "It said there was not going to be any interview... just a review of my aadsas file..."

I also applied late in Oct. I was told that they would interview into May.

I also got the same letter as you luder. It didn't mention anything about not getting an interview. The letter just basically told me to be patient and that I was in the top 3rd of the applicant pool.

USC doesn't have "interviews". Instead they have an 8-hour information session and a mock PBL case with about 8-10 other applicants and lunch with current students. The only time they have to actually evaluate you is in the mock PBL case and then you hope that the had a good impression of you, or remembered you at all. I went to the "interview that really wasn't" last Friday. They said they have way too many applicants to have individual interviews.

As of Friday the Eva Yen (admissions) told me half there class was full, so it sounds like there are still about 70 seats left.

Maybe they are not interviewing (or whatever they call it) everyone, like some schools now. I know I didn't interview at NYU and got in anyway (but I know a lot of people who did interview there and some who still haven't heard at all), and have heard a few other schools are doing the same.

Maybe you are just that good! :D

Good luck! :luck:
