So I didn’t end up matching to an anesthesia residency this year but I’m going to apply next year. Anyway, I’m in the process of looking into GPR/AEGD programs. Ideally, I would love a program that would let me to tailor my residency experience to my interests so I would like a program that is (way) more medically oriented than dental oriented. If anyone knows of any programs that fit this description please let me! Also, I’m a 4th year dental student!

Thank you in advance!

I’m sorry you didn’t match.
As far as tailored programs, you see that more so in 2nd year GPRs.
I really hope you match next year! See if there are any postmatch GPR/AEGDs at locations with anesthesia programs.

They won't be tailored but there are plenty of medically oriented GPR's. Columbia & Cornell in NYC are great examples.

I would focus on GPRs that also have dental anesthesia programs. You would be able show interest and make connections. Absolutely could help in getting in at that program.

Some GPR programs will get you certified for IV sedation but that's not typically offered until PGY 2.

I remember when I was looking at GPR’s I tried to avoid the long and heavy medical rotations—like 3+ months of non-dental medical rotations. My goal was to be a GP so that made sense for me. But for someone like yourself there are several GPR’s that are more focused on the medical rotations. I’ve been out a little too long to know which GPR’s are like this, but I’d start reaching out to program directors and asking these types of questions.
