Depends on how much they are willing to spend. For the very generous, a new computer is a good idea. You could ask for a diagnostic set (oto-ophthalmoscope) if you know your school will require one and you've done enough research to know which one to get. Ditto for a stethoscope.

I spend the most money on school for textbooks, by far. Those don't make good gifts though, especially since you don't know which ones you'll need or like.

Other ideas might be house warming items if you move. Or maybe professional attire to add to your wardrobe.

I'd personally just ask for cash. 🙂

Playstation 2. $199.
Hitman 2. $49.
Grand Theft Auto III or Grant Theft Auto Vice City. $49.
Super-Bust-a-Move 2. $19.
Dynasty Warriors 3. $49.

This is what I'd ask for if I were you. When I got into med school, an aunt bought me a Nintendo 64. It was an even better gift than a stethoscope because I didn't realize how useful a diversion and escape a video game system would be for those nights you need to get away from the books.

i would - but i just sold all of my old textbooks for a ps2 and vice city. i'm pretty sure i came out on top on taht deal 😉 hah- i imagine i won't be able to wait that long for the other games - so i'm still open to other suggestions.

don't forget tiger woods golf! killer game...

i have a diagnostic question, for you ps 2 experts. i came home from vacation and my system is broken. it is not reading the discs, i can't play games or watch movies, i get the disc read error message. i can play audio cd's though...is it simple or am i screwed???

thanks!

For my graduation I asked for an upgrade on my flight home. The previous year I spent almost 3% of my time travelling accross the Atlantic and became sick of the ordeal. It was the best present I could have asked for, not only did I get to stand in the short line (the economy line went half way down the terminal, I had 3 people infront of me), I waited in the lounge and watched the morning news, went right to the plane and boarded where I found my seat, and settled in. For an 11 hour flight it is great, I did not have wait around at all, and it was all done on airmiles (if people collect them they generally have loads!) so it was cheap too!

I wouldn't recommend getting any books yet. Many schools change up things each year.

At my school I have yet to buy a book. All of our reading is from syllabi that the school gives us. Anything that you want to read further you can get from the library off of reserve, or look it up on the net.

PS2 w/ Grand Theft Auto

Or gift certificates to Bed Bath and Beyond etc. if you are moving somewhere away from home. GC's are easier to pack 🙂

Get a laptop if you can, dirty.

Boatloads of Cash. You will need lots of it in medical school for various expenses that you cannot even dream of right now.
