Hi All--

Hopefully, one day when many (if not all) of you are accomplished and famous, you will be speaking at commencement at some prestigious university. But for now, for all graduating seniors, I was wondering who is speaking at your college commencement ceremonies this May...

Cornell-Danny Glover

syracuse university, Rudy Guliani

I tried to find one for Brown, but I don't think it is announced yet.
However, Patch Adams will talk about 'Medicine for Fun, not for Funds' tomorrow.

UCSD hasn't had much luck with either Patch Adams or Maya Angelou. I hope they both fare better at each of your schools.

Brandeis University: Ted Koppel :D

Wow, I had no idea until this thread inspired me to look it up. Cool! :)

im not a senior... but Dick Cheney mite speak here at Mich St. the secret service wont tell until 48 hrs before for security reasons

UIC - Connie Payton, sister of Walter Payton...

We got screwed out of a decent speaker <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

UM is so lame! I bet we have our new president! Sweet Jesus! I was hoping for, like, Chris Rock! ROFL... :D

University of Illinois: Maya Angelou

(I see that she's speaking at CWR too. She must really get around.)

Ours is Senator John Rockefeller. Our college isn't as cool :*( (Marshall University).

Michigan State - Dick Cheney

We're supposed to arrive 4 hours (!) early for security checks.

Last semester Jeb Bush was the speaker at UF. Hopefully he'll be speaking this semester.

Patch Adams was just at our university. I couldn't go listen to him speak. :(

I'm going to go check to see "officially" who is speaking at my ceremony.

Whoopi Goldberg! awww, yea! :)

Margaret Cho put on show tonight and Sugar Ray's coming next week. fun fun.

i'm all about celebrities!

i can not sit idly by while the bane of my existence_ whoopi_ is lauded.

to say that i hate whoopi is a gross understatement. i have seen her sodomize and single handedly destroy 3 Oscar Ceremonies and yet they KEEP INVITING HER BACK!!! ("mmm hmmm child"- is that a joke!?!?!?!?).
she hasn't said anything funny since sister act I (and that was only funny because i was 10 when i saw it).

and while we're on the topic of overrated women comics, Margaret Cho has never made me laugh. EVER. "here is my korean mother_ 'hey, i am mawgawet's motha_ i tawk wike dis'" -all her material is a variation on that one pathetic joke. very not funny.

i must say, not to sound like a sexist or anything, but the only really funny female celebrity comics are/were tracy ulmann, carol burnett, lucille ball, and gilda radner. again, not a sexist, im from nyc and i've seen dozens of hillarious female comics live_ but again, among the celebrities, none of em do it for me.

i know you are all about to jump on me. my sister is margaret cho's biggest fan (i can't for the life of me understand why). i've tried to like her comedy. i even had a private dinner with her freshman year (i won some dorm contest) but i must say that i dont find anything she says funny at all. but at least she hasn't been exalted to the legendary status of whoopie. i can't believe she's speaking at wellesley. mmm hmmm child.

University of Akron: the University President
I guess money's tight <img border="0" alt="[Laughy]" title="" src="graemlins/laughy.gif" />

I actually hung out with Margaret Cho's brother a bunch of times in undergrad. He really liked to party (I'll leave it at that). I think he stayed up several days in a row many times partying.

Margaret Cho is hilarious! Woopie, on the other hand, is not.

STP will be playing at UF in two days. Why the hell would you come play at a campus during dead week?!? We are all going to be studying our asses off...well, all of us be the business and poly-sci majors.

Rice University - Bill Cosby.
Thats gonna be pretty sweet.

:( Nobody. Yaaah Brandon University! :)

Last year, we had the Guess Who. They're from Manitoba (my province) - they had one number one song back in the sixties - "American Woman" - before Lenny Kravitz did it. And the fact that they were such a big deal should tell you a lot about Brandon.

But this year, instead of old has-been rock stars, we have nothing.

I want to go to a real school!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

•Hey, don't knock the Rock - he does a lot in health policy.•••••true that. I just looked him up. he DOES do a lot of stuff. always assumed I'd have to get in there to make any changes, but maybe it's just lobbying these good guys that we all need to do.

Northwestern -- Kofi Annan.

University of Michigan - William H. Gray III, president and chief executive officer of the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) and former U.S. congressman.

cambrian, i'm not at a university, that's the best part about it! :)
sometimes even small liberal arts college have cool guest celebrities too. :)

in response to choker,

i don't actually have that much to say where whoopi's comedy value is concerned. yea, i liked Sister Act but i have no current opinion on her now.
but i think she's cool just based on the fact that she never graduated from college and has still been successful in her career.
it's interesting that she's going to be our commencement speaker because in college, we're all brainwashed into thinking that education is everything... well out there in the real world, it isn't always and she's a great example of that.

so we can all get off our high horse.

as for Margaret Cho, i used to think she was gross and not that funny but after last night, i am now a fan. she was HYSTERICAL.
all her jokes are not based on her mother who speaks with a funny accent.
she talked about racism, homophobia, sexism, everything. i thought she was great.

bVmp!

l3T chA05 Re1gN!

ummm...jodie love-of-my-life foster!!!! hellz yeah! :D
although there are some haters at my school who think they're too good for her

When I graduated in 2004, the president of Warner Bros. spoke at our commencement and was a total douche. Although, he didn't say it outright, he alluded to the fact that it was students like us who were the reason that copyright violations had become commonplace in colleges and universities.

Everybody pretty much rolled their eyes. Some of us booed too.

It was neither the time nor place to bring up copyright law.

UTexas: US Ambassador to Mexico, Antonio Garza

Should be interesting in light of the immigration issue blowing up recently and us being, well, Texas.

hahaahaha whoops, but yeah its Obama this year

i thought that was dissapointing, seemed too easy for them to get him since its his home state...but i guess it will be cool when he runs for president in a couple elections (obviously being groomed for it)

Tulane - Bill Clinton and George Bush Sr.

I guess getting flooded has some benefits.

i'm not a hater, it's just.... the 250th graduating class and ben franklin's 300th something or other. you'd think they'd at least get an alum. i think arlen specter would be a great choice - jodie would be great to hear speak, but i expected a bit more at graduation. just the "hater"'s point of view.

arlen who? yeah, no...jodie's better. i think she'll give a better speech than most penn alums would. plus, specter's somewhat controversial and his views would be likely to offend ppl in the graduating class/audience. i don't really want a politician who's trying to campaign w/ the speech. and hey...at least we didn't get donald trump!

p.s. are you a bbb major?

Yeah, I too (being an IL resident) was a little disappointed at first when I heard about Obama - I thought it seemed too easy also...

But, the NU administration says he was their first choice, and of everyone I've talked to, their reaction was one of, "that's so cool!" I guess we spoiled Wildcats shouldn't forget that he still happens to be one of the biggest new faces on the political scene, and does have a very good shot at being the first african-american president.

Oh yeah, and he also happens to be an unbelievable speaker as well :)

sorry double post
