Grand Rounds

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dumb question, but are grand rounds generally open to medical students? I assume so.

Yes, at least for 3rd/4th years on a related rotation. Though it's not like they check IDs AFAIK.

I'm guessing people just show up in scrubs or whatever they are wearing to work/school?

It may depend. At my school, we had to wear a shirt and tie for Surgery grand rounds. No scrubs allowed.

Most departments require medical students to attend Grand Rounds if you are rotating through the department. If you are a first or second year medical student, your time is best spent mastering your pre-clinical coursework.

I second NJBMD's comment. Spend your time wisely during the first 2 years. Going once or twice for exposure is OK, but making a habit of attending grand rounds during the first 2 years is probably not the best use of your time.

It's the truth--you're not going to get much out of them unless you have a solid pre-clinical and basic clinical understanding.

Also, if you don't have a good enough knowledge base to ace step 1 and 3rd year, all the grand rounding in the world isn't going to help you
