Hey 3rd and 4th year students. I am an osteopathic med student in KC, MO and i am interested in doing rotation in Grandview. I would like any 3rd or 4th years who have done any rotation at Grandview to give me their feedback on their learning experience at the hospital as well as the Dayton area and where is a good place to stay in Dayton if your doing rotations at Grandview.

thanks

I'll be starting full time at Dayton Grandview come September. I'm a 3rd year at OUCOM and Dayton is my CORE site. I can keep you posted once I'm there and become more familiar with it.

As a side note, I graduated with a BS and Pharm. D. from Rutgers University '02. I'd be more than happy to help out anyone from the alma mater! PM if you want.
Sincerely,
Alex T.

I am a MSIV who is currently completing an Anesthesiology elective at Grandview. This month has been a mixed bag, educationally speaking. The didactic knowledge of most of the attendings I have dealt with has been top-notch, and not just in the Anesth. department. However, I have been seriously frustrated at how little "hands-on" experience that I've been able to get...which is a weird concept, especially at a teaching hospital. 😕 There are so many students around (who may be visiting or "stationed" here in Dayton) that I wonder if some of the staff knows what to do with students that are motivated and aren't just trying to do the minimum to get by on a given rotation.

Dayton is a pretty underwhelming city, in terms of stuff to do, and Grandview is in a pretty shady neighborhood. As long as you are willing to drive to get to other areas, you should find enough to keep yourself entertained. Ask some of your fellow students & residents about places to go & things to do...most will offer suggestions. As for housing, you could always opt to stay in the Grandview Housing (aka "the Hilton"). It's pretty bare-bones, but it's a 1-minute walk to hospital, so it's nice & close.

Best of luck!! 👍
