At the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, every in-state Arkansas resident med school applicant is guarantted an interview. It is the student's responsibility to call them up and schedule an interview after you have submitted your AMCAS. I was wondering what other state medical schools did this?

No other med school does this? Strange.

None that I know of, that's pretty cool -- but then again if EVERYONE gets an interview from in-state, there's almost no real significance in having one(or at least you're not sure that the med school even wants you).

you know, i have never heard of another school doing this. but, it's not surprising because uams has about the most instate friendly admissions of any school out there. lucky you, if you're a resident. if your stats are halfway decent, you're golden.

Argh, why did my parents decide to immigrate to California!!? +pity+ (I came to America from Taiwan, ROC when I was 5)

The UW-Madison Med School offers an interview to all in state residents as well.

shoulda just said China since we all know Taiwan is nothing but a rebel province!

I moved from india to Arkansas. But I really don't like it in this state as much. There is nothing much to do. I have applied to other colleges. But my best chance is UAMS. So basically, I am stuck between a career or a place that I'll be happy to live for 4 yrs. My undergrad has also been affected due to the same reasons. What do u suggest??

I totally agree! Renegade province that needs to be "liberated"! Ha ha, you noticed my "ROC" modifier huh? 😛 Yup, my family is Waishengren ("Mainlander"/"Outlander", depending on translation), and we support reunification of the Motherland! 😎

Really? I thought Madison screened for secondaries. That's good to know for next year.

believe me, lots and lots of people at uams feel the same way you do. they'd love to get out of arkansas, but uams is the only school they get into. there's no right answer, but four years isn't that long of a period of time. also, my guess is that you can still do lots of elective rotations outside of arkansas, and you can match outside of arkansas.

do you currently live in little rock? there is more to do there than anywhere else in arkansas. i recall going to lots of bars there, and there are a lot of restaurants. if you're already there, though, then i guess that's not much of a plus since you already don't like it.
