This guidance is specifically for National Guard officers only. I expect it will apply to the other branches as well, but I do not have their policies or procedures. According to the latest ARNG AMEDD SOP:

"Direct Commission AMEDD officers that do not have a commissioning source (ROTC, OCS, US Military Academy) who are appointed on or after 1 October 2017 are required to attend the Direct Commission Course (DCC) and BOLC B. Those that commissioned prior to 1 October 2017 are grandfathered into the past requirements."

If you commissioned through ROTC, OCS, or a USMA, DCC is not a requirement for you. If you commissioned prior to 1 October 2017, DCC is not a requirement for you.

BOLC B is a requirement for all new AMEDD officers. You will attend the short course (25 days) at Fort Sam Houston. Medical students on valid MDSSP contracts have 36 months from the date of commission to attend the course. Residents on valid STRAP contracts have 36 months after their residency program ends to complete BOLC B. If you do not have a commissioning source, you have the same time frames above to complete DCC and BOLC B.

Thank you for the information. Does this apply to all branches of ROTC (not just a Army ROTC). I commisioned over 25 years ago through Navy ROTC. Thank you!

Because it doesn’t mention Army ROTC specifically, I expect any ROTC program to count. Double check with your state special branch recruiter to be sure though.

Unfortunately, what @NG_SpecialBranchRecruiter said is only a partial quote. In whole, AR 350-1 Chapter 3, para 3-27 reads:

(1) Army Medical Department. All AMEDD officers will attend the AMEDD Officer Basic Course which is BOLC-B for the AMEDD. AMEDD RC officers will attend the AMEDD RC BOLC-B and will integrate with the AMEDD RA BOLC-B during their FTX phase. Attendance at the AMEDD RC BOLC-B will occur after completion of the AMEDD RC BOLC-B Phase 1 DL.

(a) AMEDD Direct Commissioned Officers are officers without ROTC, OCS, USMA, NGB OCS or WOCS experience to include officers with enlisted Basic Combat Training, and officers with pre-commissioning training from sister services (USAF, USN, etc.).

(b) Effective 1 October 2017, all direct commissioned AMEDD officers assessed into the U.S. Army will attend the AMEDD Direct Commissioned Course (DCC) conducted at Fort Sill, OK. All AMEDD direct commissioned officers must attend the AMEDD DCC prior to attendance of BOLC-B. (c) AMEDD direct commissioned officers assessed into the U.S. Army prior to 30 September 2017 will only be required to attend BOLC-B and will be grandfathered for the AMEDD DCC requirement.

(d) All AMEDD direct commissioned officers of all components will attend the four week AMEDD DCC. The only exception are ARNG and USAR Medical Corps, Dental corps, and Veterinarian corps officers who will attend the three week AMEDD DCC.

(e) The waiver / exception to policy approval authority for AMEDD DCC attendance is the HQDA G-3/5/7. This authority may be further delegated to the appropriate directorate or division overseeing officer training.

Please pay attention to (a) "and officers with pre-commissioning training from sister services (USAF, USN, etc.)."

Navy ROTC does not count for DCC.

Anyone have any feedback on what their experience with DCC/BOLC-B for the National Guard was like?
