I am really tall and really skinny. So not everything will look right on me. I like flat fronts not pleats...so please i would appreciate any advice you can give me

Dude

Unfreak yourself

I seriously doubt the number of buttons will matter. Find something that you feel good wearing, economical and that looks good. My 2 pesos!

I don't know if there's a definitive answer to this, but 2-button jackets look more stylish (but not less professional) IMO.

Honestly, I didn't pay attention to any of the guy interviewees' stuits at the interviews. I don't think anyone cares. Just wear the one that would make you look more attractive.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm wearing a trash-bag!

(I like three-buttons)

for reference, two button suits are newer and a bit more stylish. three button suits are a little more conservative and old fashioned. but i don't think it makes much of a difference in your interview.

I don't think that's true. Two-button is the classic suit. That's what old people, like recent presidents, congressmen wear. Three-button are more stylish. That's what the pro athletes wear. Trust me on this one. 👍

3 button suits look nice on tall guys, i think. My boyfriend is 6'4" and really skinny and he looks dashing in his 3 button suit.

i might wear a monkey suit...will this make me a doctor?

I once knew a guy who was accepted by a top 10 school, but when the other members of the adcom found out he wore a two-button suit, they retracted his acceptance.

Chill out dude, at one of my interviews a guy wore khakis and a blue blazer, and he got in.

Certainly! Monkey-suited interviewees make the best doctors. Unfortunately, my trash bag will have to do =[.

3 button is better on a taller guy.

2 button is definitely not newer. As another poster mentioned, that is the classic (aka old) suit style.

I also think 3 button suits are more stylish.

From the AAMC website:

The average applicant to medical school wears a suit with 2.28 buttons, whereas the average matriculant wears a suit with 2.76 buttons. Ironically, the recent trend seems to be towards zippers. For more info:

 awesome

I have been going on interviews and not only are they painfully easy, no one will give a damn what kind of suit you have. But you might consider seriously de-stressing yourself before your interviews if you are that concerned over your suit.

jeezus christ...
is it a crime a ask a question... good lord
I just wanted to know whats in... so I buy the right type of suit....
thank you for the polite answers... everyone else has something stuck up their arse....i hope when a patient asks you a questions thats really simple to you ... you are not an arse like right now

From my interview experience: NO ONE CARES. Seriously--people were wearing all kinds of things and no one cared. Just wear something relatively normal and you're fine. I have now realized that I could have spent a lot less money on my attire. Such is life. Next time I'll be sure not to listen to the paranoids that frequent such places as SDN.

Your link is busted dude 😡 I wanted more info dammit

If you don't have a suit presently, buy one that you can wear to formal events in your life after the interview. Every man needs at least one suit. Buy a dark color (black, dark gray, navy blue), and make sure it is fitted to you properly. Nothing looks worse than a guy in a suit that's too tight or too loose. Also IMHO, I think two button suits make you look like the captain from Gilligans Island. Anything more than three buttons and you look like Puff Daddy.

For your interview, don't wear boxers!! There is a high statistical correlation between briefs and med school admissions. However, the relationship becomes unclear if an undershirt is also worn.

Pleats are for adults/men. When I used to work in downtown Philly, I don't think I ever saw a CEO/business man wear flat front pants w/ their suit.

What about wearing scrubs. I've heard that doing that might show how dedicated you are to medicine  Plus you don't have to worry about buttons

 pleats were actually only created to make fat people look thinner...i don't know much about philly, but certainly the execs here in chicago wear plenty of plain front pants...plenty wear pleats too...but it's about what looks the best, not what the "adults" wear

I'm quite certain that if you wear a two button suit you are rejected immediately.

and one more thing...does anyone else notice that at some point in every thread, someone on here tells someone else that they'll be a bad doctor? why is this?

Why do we even dignify threads like this? This is a ridiculous question. I know SDN moderates and this is an example of a thread that I would want to trash.

No offense to the poster, well, I take that back. Can't you go to Mens Wearhouse and just ask them?

Has an attractive, well-dressed man ever graced the streets of Philadelphia? In my six years of research on the subject, I am sorry to report, no.

My CEO-slash-businessman dad wears flat front suit pants. He also qualifies as an adult-slash-man.

Just as long as you don't wear some obnoxious thick-striped suit that an NBA player might wear, nobody will care what your suit looks like.

For what it's worth, here's my take on the subject:

Two-button, single-vent, navy, navy pinstripe, charcoal, or black. These are conservative and classic. You cannot go wrong with these. For important interviews, I always go with one of these.

Three-button suits are less conservative, but they are very common nowadays. I'd say they're also a good choice, but not as good a choice as the two-button.

Four button, probably not a great idea. Double-breasted is also a little flashy.

because none of the premeds here know sh1t about being a doctor yet.

you should have to wear your birthday suit for asking this question. Just kiddin, I vote 2 buttons since its traditional, I think?

You don't even have to wear a suit. I hear that most wear the generic button-up shirt, tie, slacks and dress shoes. The thing that'll distinguish you between applicants isn't your attire but how you conduct yourself...

But yeah, if you really want to stand out, I'd say disco suit hands down. Disco fever!
