Volunteer on sexual assault hotline? is it meaningless, or would it make you "unique"?

How long have you volunteered? How many/types of calls have you received? Would your boss write you a positive LOR? Do you feel that you have learned anything from this? Why sexual assuault? (instead of suicide or a quitline?)larrry said:Volunteer on sexual assault hotline? is it meaningless, or would it make you "unique"?
this is a student organization, i.e. sponsored by student govt. i didnt see any ad for suicide or any other hotlines. not getting any recommendations. but can bull**** well on the interview about why it's interesting, etc. is it useless though?RxnMan said:How long have you volunteered? HINT: Answer these questions in your essay describing this experience.

Do ECs that you enjoy - those will make you unique more than ones in which you just go through the motions. I hope you enjoy/ed the sexual assault hotline. (Wow, that came out awkward.)
From your comments it seems like you didn't think it was a good experience. Do whatever you want. I don't think anyone should feign interest, so be honest with your interviewers about your commitment and why you did it.larrry said:this is a student organization, i.e. sponsored by student govt. i didnt see any ad for suicide or any other hotlines. not getting any recommendations. but can bull**** well on the interview about why it's interesting, etc. is it useless though?
ok my true reason is "i want to practice my english skills and i want to tease people that call there", but on the interview i would say "i wanted to practice my conversation skills and i wanted to help people who were down, because i felt i could relate to them as i too have had unfortunate experiences throughout my life and know how it is good to have someone support you"RxnMan said:From your comments it seems like you didn't think it was a good experience. thanks![super.cool] said:I don't think anything is wrong with it. My philosophy is that you want EC's that'll make your application stand out. And I doubt there are many application with that particular activity.

i'm kidding, relax man. i want to learn. but there is some half-truth to it. i am obviously not "someone" who was sexually assaulted...otemd said:You wanted to tease people that call there? I am sorry, but that is really messed up. I will admit that there are certain EC's I got involved with to help my resume, but the way you speak of your reasoning for doing this one (in particular this one) is very disturbing to me. I am sorry, and I have never said such a negative thing on SDN, but this attitude does not speak well for you becoming a physician.
