HI all-

I was just curious to see if anyone has been invited to interview at GW after being put on hold? If not, any previous applicants know when they start to look at applicants on hold?

Thanks!!

IN my email that told me I was on hold they said that they would only begin to look at on hold applicants in February.

Hope this helps!

NapeSpikes got off the hold list on 12/28 with an email interview invite. So let's not give up yet!

Yup, yup--I was put on hold beginning of December and interview invite came late last week some time (via snail mail, sorry gd 😀). Nothing in my app has changed in the past four weeks obviously, and my numbers aren't great, so keep the faith!

Oh, and my Hold email in early December didn't say anything about only getting pulled off after February.

Edit: From the replies, it seems like there were two different Hold emails sent out, but I'm not sure if it makes a difference. The Hold email I got didn't mention February, but it definitely didn't have an encouraging tone. Thanks for the congrats, guys.

Oh, and my Hold email in early December didn't say anything about only getting pulled off after February. It seems like those with high stats got the "After Feb" email.

Congratulation, NapeSpikes. In your "hold" email long time ago, did they say that they would review your application in February? Because I remember there are two types of "hold" email, one of them specified that they will look at these applications again in February, while other emails like mine didn't mention that. Which type of "hold" email did you receive in October? once again, congratulation and I wish you THE BEST LUCK WITH YOUR INTERVIEW AT GW.

Nape,

Congrats for getting off the list! You're the first I've heard of.

Your stats look like mine (GPA & age). I am also on the "hold" list at GW...but I got the "review in Feb" email, waaaaay back in September or October.

Good luck...I hope you get into GW if that is your first choice. I am a DC-area native and I know they've got a great reputation.

interesting turn of events. mine said nothing about february. that's either really cool or really uncool. time will tell. either way, gdbaby and i are interviewing the same day. what a coincidence!

I second the congratulations napespikes! I just checked my hold status email and it doesn't say anything about February so I'm hoping that is a good thing! I was definately not aware that there were 2 diff email types.....Hopefully we will all start to hear soon! good luck all

BTW- anyone thought of sending them an update/interest letter? I don't know if it is discouraged though

I have pretty low numbers and I got the on-hold till Feb email, so I doubt only people with high numbers got that specific one. Im really hoping to get off the hold list... I would love to visit DC!!!

I think that my email (the Feb one) said something about sending them an updated transcript, but seemed to discourage update letters.

duh. bring your child and we'll take him to the interview and pretend he's ours. who's gonna say no to that little guy? and better yet, who's gonna try to break up such a handsome family (make-believe or not)??

Mine says nothing about February. Maybe they just put it in some emails and not the others?

mine doesn't say february either and is dated dec 2. i hope this is a good thing.

Mine doesn't say anything about Feb and was dated on 12/2. It did say it may be "some time" before I hear anything.

Did all your letters actually say you have been put "on hold"? I received an email in late August from them saying they've reviewed my application and it will be quite some time before I hear from them again. And it sure has - I'm still waiting. The word "hold" was definitely not mentioned, though.

Mine definitely says "on hold"

I got an email in September saying it's on hold till Feb. I guess I shouldn't expect mail from them anytime soon.

got mine dec 2 also...

At this time, your application file is complete, has been reviewed and is currently on hold. Your desire to become a physician, your understanding of the challenges, and your perseverance is commendable. Please understand it will be some time before you hear from us again and accept our sincere apologies for the unpleasant wait. The group you are in will be reviewed again. Should the committee offer you an interview, you will be contacted immediately. We truly appreciate your patience.

oh wells

I called them in December to see what was up, since I hadn't heard from them in um, 4 and a half months, and they said my application was still under review. I was a little confused as to how it could take so long to review me, but I accepted that. I just called them now and they said I was placed on hold in October. They seem to have a little trouble getting their stories straight. And my email did not say "on hold", but now I'm glad I know.

Okay, this was the email I got:

December 2, 2005

Dear Applicant,

We appreciate your sincere interest in The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. You may be aware that our applicant pool has grown this past year. Please be assured that we continue to read every completed file in detail. This letter is an attempt to help you better understand your status.

As the AMCAS application, secondary application, and letters of recommendation are quite detailed, we do not require further information or documentation from you at this time. Should you have the good fortune to be accepted to the MD Program of your choice, please inform us so that we may withdraw your application from further review. This will give your fellow applicants an opportunity.

We fully understand that the application process is daunting. We hope that this update on your current status is helpful to you in making your future plans.

Sincerely,

Diane P. McQuail

Assistant Dean of Admissions

My invite snail letter did not mention being taken off any hold--just a normal interview invite.

I should be celebrating, but instead i am fretting about why I haven't recevied MY (and DaMota's) interview invite. a plague on your house! Okay, maybe not a plague, but perhaps a flock of pidgeons in your attic!

Thanks for letting me in on your kinky hotel room get together. Forget it, one of my roommates from college lives in DC. I'll stay with him.... We'll go to the Smithsonian and sit around in the Spirit of St. Louis. I don't need you to have a good time.
Oh, but first I've got to get that interview invite, don't I?

Look. I can only handle one crazy Asian in my hotel room. If I had to choose by Avatar, you would win, as i am not much into Asian girls but very into that Big Funny Story that people like to bastardize all the time.

You can stay in my room, but you will have to stay in the closet. My brother and sister in-law live in DC (Adams Morgan and Georgetown, respectively) but I will not stay with them. My sister in-laws's idea of a good time is hiring a chef to come over to her big a** house to prepare a lobster boil whilst we drink mojitos, scotch samplers and Reisling around the giant kitchen island covered in newspaper (for eating the lobster). I think the Spirit of St. Louis is where it's at. You lived in St. Louis and I have lived close (Carbondale, IL). There is a lot of damn spirit there that had to be transfered into such a little engine. Must be an amazing sight. I will go to the Smithsonian and see The Fonz's jacket from "Happy Days." Funny how they don't have JJ's turtleneck from "Good Times."

holllllaaaaa

i got the non-date-specific email too. i really hope more of the schools i applied to are doing the 2 batch interview thang.

So....has anyone else gotten a post-hold invite?

Hey guys! Thank for the congratulatory wishes. =) I found out via email from Dean Mcquail since I'd been bugging her for MONTHS about my application. I guess persistence pays off? I'm sure there will be more invites from the hold pile for you guys as well!

Hey guys I just called admissions and they said that that they have made a decision and sent it in the mail...how have you guys been getting interview invites? I am not at my Univ apt and the suspence is killing me...yikes..should I be preparing myself for a rejection?

I have a feeling that answering the phones at a med school admissions office is a lot like working at the driver's license window at the DMV: everyone who calls wants the same thing. How can you get exicted about that? Even nice Loyola guy, Matt, was sounding less than jovial during my 60th call to their office.
