"Doctors Day marks the date that Crawford W. Long, M.D., of Jefferson, GA, administered the first ether anesthetic for surgery on March 30, 1842. On that day, Dr. Long administered ether anesthesia to a patient and then operated to remove a tumor from the man’s neck. Later, the patient would swear that he felt nothing during the surgery and wasn’t aware the surgery was over until he awoke."

We had a breakfast that nobody could attend.

Yeah isn't that funny how they arrange things right in the middle of the busiest time of the day and then complain cuz nobody shows. We aren't nurses or administrators with loads of free time at our disposal.

We had to educate our administrators on this and they are a bit more flexible these days.

But I gotta say, my administration is pretty cool. They sent out a signup sheet for us to sign up for a free massage.:p Now that is a pretty good gift. Unfortunately, I won't be able to take part.

Catered breakfast and lunch... + box of chocolates.

The best part are all the hugs we get during the day... it’s kinda like a birthday. My special “Sevo’s” drawer in Pacu was packed with all sorts of candy goodies that I really don’t want or need. But it was nice... cuz they picked out what they know I like.

Oh... and we had a very anemic board today (spring break)... So most of us had a little case and home by 10:00am (extremely unusual for our practice). :D

Panera for lunch in the lounge at the Children's Hospital, for us. I'm sure the big house is doing nothing. Unfortunately no anemic board for us since all the kiddies are getting their elective procedures done on spring break.

Free Pizza and salad in the physician's lounge! (note: it was the same pizza and salad from the cafeteria directly next to the physician's lounge...and we already get free cafeteria food. But this pizza was actually cold because it wasn't under the heat lamps)

Heard one nurse say "Happy Doctor's Day" to the attending surgeon...but that was it. Otherwise, I would not have even known that today was some special day of recognition. At least we flew through the cases in my room and got out early.

Our hospital is sponsoring a "cocktails and appetizers" event at a local art museum, in the evening so people might have time to attend.
