Does anyone know on the developments of Harding Pharmacy school? Their inaugural class is suppose to start this fall if everything goes well. They have a site visit from the AACP(sp?) on may 1st. Anyone hear anything about it? More importantly, do you guys think it will have no problem going through the accredidation process?

They still have some open spaces for their inaugural class. They will still be interviewing in May and probably in June too. If denied, they will try to run class in Spring after getting approval. One thing is for sure, they wont run the class without green light from ACPE. Goodluk

I have been accepted to Harding University for the Fall of 2007... and as far as I know all of the spots are full. They only accepted 40 students. I think the program is very organized and the school seems to be on the right track! Also, the campus was very nice and the students are going to get a lot of one on one attention due to the small class size!

Yeah... I got accepted to Harding as well. I just now saw you on the pipeline. I talked to Carol today and she said that they are ready for the site visit. I hope everything goes well!

I'm pretty excited to meet our classmates since we will be spending FOUR years together!!

for those of you that got are planning to attend harding.. what do you guys think about that letter from the dean of pharmacy? A greater chance that we wont start in august?

What did the letter from the dean say? I'm just curious about all of the new schools that are starting up.

I dont know what did the letter say but harding already had back up plan to deal with that problem. If the program wont start right away in Aug, it will start in January and catch up lecture in Summer so that your graduation days will not be lengthened. If it wont get approval now then they will be seeking it again so that they can run the program in January. As far as i know they have problem with the building for the pharmacy school too. They put their plan in one building but later changed that to other building. There were not a lot of applicants for the inaugural program. I am not sure if it is because of the geographical location.
Anyway, looks like they are yet to hire quite a few faculty members.
The curriculum for pharmacy school is similiar to Mercer University which sounds promising.
I hope they will get green signal by ACPE.

i can't find the school of pharmacy website !
do they have a website for the school of pharmacy?

do u guys know an email of a pre-pharmacy advisor for the Harding school of pharmacy?

Kindest Sentiments,
yacamrahp

wrong post ...ooppss

I read in the paper this morning that Harding College of Pharmacy is going to delay opening until Fall 2008 since they could not fill "crucial" positions.

It's a shame for those who had plans to attend this year. It seemed promising from what I've read in the news before today.

I heard they didn't get pre-candidate status. I know someone who was accepted there for fall 07 and that is what she said. She is regretting turning down another full accredited school....

for the folks that got accepted to harding U, dont feel too bad, better safe than sorry. Delay for a year is not too bad, you can work in the pharmacy full time for a year if you haven't done so, trust me, you will learn a lot.

does anyone have an idea if their new pharmacy program will live up to the expectations? I mean students are dishing out 30 grand a year for this program.

why did she turn down the fully accredited school and take her chances on harding?

hey guys!
Did anyone hear anything from the uni yet for Fall 09?!?
Im put on the waiting list. Is that a good thing?
What are the chances of getting in? HELP!:D:eek::scared:

Oh my goodness. I know this thread is a bit old, but another pharmacy school?

i interview there in january and have been waitlisted since, luckily for me i was accepted in other schools so im not really worried about harding,

all i can say, especially those from nj, ny, ca, tx, fl, etc, the area surrounding harding is very umm,, so only go there if its your last option

Why would you consider going to a school that failed to gain ACPE pre-candidate status in an earlier try? The ACPE is handing that out a dime a dozen nowadays, so something must be seriously wrong over there.

Two years isn't going to be enough time to rustle up any decent faculty that just happens to want to practice in the backwoods of Arkansas.

Come on, we're not that bad. Seriously.

We didn't FAIL to get pre-candidate status. We voluntarily withdrew to strengthen our program. We will get candidate status in July. I have no qualms with this school. I personally got into my home state school and chose Harding because it is a great program with great people. Proud to be at HUCOP! :)

hrmm...if my memory is accurate...you must have been the tourguide on my interview day ;)

Yes JTrue, you have a good memory. Where are you going to attend?

Well I'm sure there is hope! tbh unless you're from the area, a lot of people dont have harding as their top choice. Don't get me wrong, it seemed like a great school with friendly people, but it is in the middle of no where. Although that is very condusive to studying!

Well, I guess even some of us Arkansans consider Searcy to be a bit... ah, uptight? in some ways. But yeah, it probably is a good environment for the serious business of getting one's learn on.

Hey guys,

I got accepted to a couple of accredited schools other than Harding. I am leaving my option opened for Harding for Fall 2009. Btw does any know how much is the overall tuition? And, will I be getting enough financial aid to cover all the expenses like food and partying on weekends?

I'm still debating where to go--why is searcy considered uptight? I'm in AZ right now--don't really know how people/things are in AR:confused:

Searcy is just a town where there isn't anything to do, but most of the people are pretty laid back and most are really friendly... you will have to drive 45min -1hour to go to Little Rock or one of the other surrounding towns to have something to do. Harding is a private school and they are strict on their college students, but from what I have heard they are pretty lenient on their pharmacy students. But you have to be prepared for chapel and following some other rules that may seem a little unnecessarry.

when i visited there, the undergrad has to attend chapel. But the pharm students didn't have to attend. Also, the county there is a "dry" county, so if you like to have a few drinks here and there you'll have to go out of searcy.

I had my interview yesterday and I absolutely loved it! For something that's supposed to be nerve wrecking it was pretty fun. It was so laid back and was one of the most relaxing interviews I have been to. The faculty and admissions seemed genuinely kind and very interested in everyone. I was accepted to another school and its going to be a tough decision if I get in here. Hope we all hear back soon! Ill post once I hear something!

How competitive it is to get into pharm D program at Harding university, Arkansas? From the university's website I learned that they accept 60 students each year. Anyone knows about details regarding number of applicants, number invited for interview, etc?

All Pharm.D programs are competitive, but I don't think Harding is unreasonable like most other schools. I have a 3.3 GPA and 51 PCAT when I applied, and was invitied for an interview. I'm not sure if they received my January PCAT score of 62 prior to the interview or not, but I was accepted into their program.
I am not sure how many students were interviewed for this year's incoming class, but it was stated on Pharmcas that 135 applicants were interviewed in 2009.

For anyone awaiting a response from Harding, I am declining my seat for this Fall. Good luck!

Why would anyone go to this school? Undergrads are forced to go to church? It's in the middle of backwoods nowhere Arkansas? The county banned alcohol? Not to mention the state banned gay people from adopting? I don't know... I'm just saying that it sounds like backwoods, teabagger, queer bashing hicksville. That is all.

It is a private school and they can do as they please. We as pharmacy students don't have to go to chapel or church. We are a conservative school and I like it. It sounds to me that you would be more comfortable at a more liberal, bigger city school. It may be to your benefit to go to a California school.

When conservative means conforming to some 1950s standard of so-called morals then I basically have to say that your school sucks. If it means hating on those unrepentant gay people then I basically have to say that your school sucks. If I were ever a director of pharmacy for an area and I had two people applying, one from University of Arkansas and one from Harding, home of the hardass fundamentalist christians, I would automatically choose the U of Arkansas student simply for the reason that bible thumping *******s have no place in today's civilized society. I truly hope that that brand of religion is taking its last gasp of air before drowning in the sea of modernity whose tide came in over two decades ago. But only time will tell. :xf:

Oh, and just so everyone knows what they're getting into before they apply to this school, I got this from wikipedia for your information:

Chapel and Bible class attendance are mandatory for students who are taking at least 8 hours for credit in a given semester. Additionally, students must complete at least 8 hours of Bible courses in order to complete the Liberal Arts curriculum. "First Time In College" (FTIC) students must take a survey course in New Testament during the fall of their first year, followed by a survey of the Old Testament in the spring.
Students who live on campus (a majority of students) are required to be in their dorms by midnight during the week and 1 a.m. on weekends. Except in certain circumstances, men and women are not allowed to visit one another's dorm rooms.
Harding has a no-smoking policy on campus. Disciplinary action may be taken against students who smoke off campus, and illegal drugs are prohibited both on and off campus. The consumption of alcohol is also prohibited for students and faculty both on and off campus. A violation of this policy usually results in expulsion for one semester. Exceptions to this rule have been made for missionaries participating in communion services in countries where "partaking of the cup" includes wine. (Searcy is in White County, which is a dry county.)
Harding requires faculty to dress professionally when attending class, chapel, lyceum and American Studies programs.
Students and faculty may not participate in any sexual activity outside of traditional marriage, including homosexual behavior. The use or display of pornography is prohibited.

So no, I guess pharmacy students don't have to go to church although I'm sure there is strong peer pressure to attend. And pharmacy students probably don't have to take the required bible classes either. But if you're on campus you can't have anyone of the opposite sex visit your dorm and you certainly can't have sex unless married (and of course since gay people are banned from marriage that means even committed gay couples are not allowed). You have to be in your room by midnight. You can't smoke or drink on or OFF campus without risk of expulsion (talk about a draconian policy). And you have to be surrounded by a bunch of repressed fundamentalist christian kids all day everyday. Oh, and look at the special guest speakers at the college this past academic year. George W. Bush and Ben Stein (creationist evolution-denier). How enlightening!

Look, I know the college is private and has a right to exist. But it doesn't have a right to not be thoroughly criticized for its repressive, often hateful beliefs. And I think broadcasting how thoroughly repulsive many of this college's rules are is a good thing so that everyone knows just what this college is all about so that those who do not agree with what it preaches will not make the mistake of sending it an application fee.

Well, when you're burning in Hell because the people above couldn't get across to you to accept Christ as your Savior you'll realize the truth behind it all. Until then, good luck in your pursuits.

It's easy to address your issues with schools like Harding. If you don't agree with the policies then don't go, lol. If I were reading about a school that was a total opposite to the above my natural inclination would be to think, "Hmmm, I don't want to go there," and then turn the page. It's a private, church-based school. Would you expect it to be like a public campus somewhere? If you're looking for public schools there are an abundance to choose from.

Yeah, see, that whole telling people they're going to burn in hell if they don't believe exactly what you believe... That's why people hate you and want to ostracize you from the rest of society. But have fun with that because at least you'll be able to feel high and mighty when listening to George W. Bush stumble over his words when he's giving some inane speech to your graduating class.

I don't play golf but that doesn't mean I won't protest a golf club that only allows white people. In the same way, I don't go to fundamentalist churches but that doesn't mean I won't protest a fundamentalist college that says gay people are going to burn in hell and aren't allowed to be in relationships on campus. The Churches of Christ (which this college is affiliated with) once had many problems with race relations and racial integration even after the main civil rights movement had ended. Now they (at least supposedly) embrace black people and people of other races and have apologized for any racial discrimination in its past. In the same way, I would predict (although I'm sure you will disagree with my prediction) that this college and church will allow gay people in 100 years or less, long after the rest of society has embraced gay people as loving people, parents, and community members.

Better him than Obama, lol. Although of the three, I'd prefer Clinton as a speaker. He's pretty good in that area. Seriously though, it's ok if you want to ostracize me. I have my peer groups. You have your's. No biggie.

unevache, it's quite unfortunate that ignorant people like you are considering pharmacy as a profession. I wish every admissions committee at every pharmacy school has a tool that could recognize idiotic people like you so that they don't have to waste their time on people like you.

You haven't even visited the school or the area, and you have already decided to label the school any which way you want. It's okay to not like a school, but you don't need to waste thread space intensely bashing an institution that you have no first-hand knowledge about.
Now, if you had attended the school, and experienced first-hand all these so-called "injustices," then your intense protesting about Harding might have some merit.
You need to learn how to respect others' beliefs and stop all this prejudiced ignorance spewing from your mouth before you can become a pharmacist.

And for your info, they are not some intolerant repressive cult that you have envisioned in their mind. I expressed my reservations about attending Harding due to it being a school of religion and stated that I am not Christian at my interview, and they still offered me acceptance.

Plenty of Harding students were not in their dorm rooms locked up tight when I visited the town, so contrary to your beliefs, they are not being tortured. Plus, every pharmacy student that I talked to at the school stated that they don't live in student dorms anyway.

And last but not least, the school still has plenty of students paying tuition to attend it, so I think there's actually something to like about it...IMAGINE THAT!
