My MCAT is definitely not the 11, 12, 12 that is the average for HMS.

Does anyone know admits who had scores lower than the 35?

I'm losing hope...
thanks~

No worries lea. I don't know that many people at HMS period, so I can't offer you concrete examples. But look at it this way: that 35 is their average. Of the three people I know, their MCAT averages were 39. Pretty high...but in order to average out that 39, HMS needs to accept three people with an average of 31. Alternately, they need to accept 10 other people with an average of 33.3. Also, all the best medical schools routinely reject people with 4.0's and 40's, so numbers aren't everything. Don't lose hope! Besides, not getting into Harvard is not the end of your life anyway.

One of my friends, a graduate of Oklahoma State, was accepted into Harvard with a 27 on the MCAT. His GPA was pretty high 3.8 and he had lots of extracurricular activities/volunteer hours. Just in case people are interested, he is not a minority.

Will there be any new buildings showing up on campus named after his father?

06, that's a pretty tight comment. Unfortunately I don't think so. He comes from a middle class family. Combined income of about 100K.

Maybe he realized that successful applicants were more than their numbers on paper.

Similar to what RAFA alluded to, he felt that his numbers didn't totally represent his potential and he decided to give it a shot. Fortunately for him, it worked.

so what was it that put him over the top? the process is a crapshoot, but he must have at least one shining jewel to catch the admission committee's eye.

I was interviewed with a 29 M MCAT score so I am assuming that they don't care to much about it if the rest of your app. looks good.

A lot of schools interview low MCATers, just to see if there is something special about you. Being admitted as a low MCATer is different...

Interview:
"No I don't have an excuse for my low MCAT score, but here...why don't you talk to my pal Ben Franklin about it later on? *wink wink*"

Right - they will tell you that they are interested in people with successful backgrounds of all sorts there, and it isn't just numbers, numbers, numbers.

lol. damnit! i prolly need a whole gang of franklins to beat a good decision out of HMS; i knew i was missing something. i am curious tho...obviously harvard gets a whole ton of applications -- i am wondering what kind of non-academic credentials one needs to get into the top schools.

You need a patent or publications usual. Be novel

I have 2 friends there now- they both took the MCAT twice and neither of them ever cleared a 30.

Both have good GPA's though and lots of other stuff...

hey I can answer that one and I dont even know the guy...he knew that all they could do is tell him NO!
😀

Harvard's average is a 35~36, so there will be at least 40% below a 35.
