hello, I was curious if any foreign trained dentist has appplied to orthodontist specialty in any program in the usa...
if any did, please share your experiences..
thanks

I am sorry I couldn't explain myself clearer on the first post. I was in a hurry because of the tornado warning at my home town.
My qustion is directed to any foreign trained dentist who has applied or has been interested in ortho specialty..
I am foreign trained dentist preparing to take the ndb 1 on July, I plan to apply to advanced standin programs , but at the same time I would love to just get into ortho especialty and later go to advanced standing program. I have been working as an orthodontist assistant for a year and I know that orthodontics is what I like the most.
Proposing the best case scenario:
NDB 90, toefl 600, gre over 1000, work experience in ortho for a year with 40 hours/week ....Do I have any chance to get into specialty???
hope to hear something soon

I think you definitely can prove a point,if you apply. The best way to do it is go individually to each program website ,email them and enquire over the fone if they take foriegn grads and in the past has any foriegn grads made it there and if so ,can you speak to them etc.Usually they are helpful and would tell you everything, but just to be defensive make sure of some places that are looking for just the appln fees and not you.Though,I personally do not know anybody foriegn grad in Ortho programs,I do know that there is one in Indianapolis that took a foriegn grad, and another one in minnesota. The rarity of of such a thing happening has to be verified too.

not a good idea

I had applied last yr, got an interview....but it is really competitive, and, as a foreign dentist, you have to be exceptional to be admitted. Try and shadow an ortho for a few months. Scores above 90 have a good chance.

Hello Slayer,
Which college did u apply last yr for MS in clinicals?.....
Did u apply with ur GRE score or just NBDE & TOEFL?
Pls do reply when u get some time. Thanks! 🙂

GRE is very important in schools that require GRE, specially the West Coast schools. together with NBDE, class standing, GPA, they also look at GRE scores.

I was wondering whether you are interviewed by Washinghton (Seattle)dental college for ortho program? - assuming you applied with your GRE scores?

No, I was't interviewed there.
