Has anybody interviewed at GWU and received a rejection/waitlist despite the fact that they felt the interview went well. I ask this because my interview went really well (not one thing I regret saying unlike in other interviews) but I've seen a lot of people on SDN say that they got into the school they interviewed the worst at and didn't get accepted to the school they interviewed well at. And I ask this about GWU because their interview was really chill, making me think that MOST people who interview there probably do well. Thanks!

Yeah, I got waitlisted. My interviews went well, but in retrospect, I probably didn't communicate that I really wanted to go to GWU (which I don't think I do). If they put you on the waitlist, it's worth a letter telling them that you really want to go there. If it's a rejection, I'm sorry to hear it 🙁

Yeah Instigata i FEEL THE EXACT SAMEWAY. i know for a fact my student interviewer went well b/c she basically was asked me the "mandatory" questions at the end b/c we were talkin about my other experiences. I am not saying my faculty interview went horrible, but i thought it went pretty damn well tho too. I don't know..GWU is so weird they might just be waitlisting everybody?

happened to me last year. luckily, it worked out in the end. it remains a mystery to me how the admissions committee differentiates between interviewees because the interviews are so basic and laid back. anyway, if you're on the waitlist and want to get in, try to be proactive about it. don't just wait with your fingers crossed. i think there are too many people on the waitlist for that to work in your favor. best of luck, you guys.

I am waiting and praying for GW to come through. So far it's going on 6 weeks of waiting and I called the office last week and they said they're backed up to 8 weeks now. So, some more waiting...

I totally know what you mean. I thought my interview at Pitt went really well because its so laid back, but WAITLISTED. I worry about the same thing with GW. I did express that GW was one of my top choices at my interview so I'm hoping that will tell them that I am really interested.

I was accepted and i didnt think my interviews went very well at all. I basicallt told my faculty interviewer that "she doesnt seem to know how to make students feel welcome"...etc.😱

Thanks for the responses. I sure hope i won't have to wait 8 weeks to get my response since I'm itching for an acceptance. I just want to feel relieved by the fact that I actually will be in medical school next year.

I thought my interview went well. I made a few jokes and the interviewer liked them! Unfortunately... I was waitlisted too. 😕

Considering that this school waitlisted so many of our SDNers, I wonder how many ppl they accept and how many they reject post interview, or do they just waitlist a whole bunch?

I think they interview close to 1,000 and accept about 500. That is what I remember them saying at the interview, though I could be wrong.

So they accept 500 and waitlist 500? Wow. That is a lot of ppl.

I definitely think that is not right. What I think I heard is they accept about 1.5 their class size. So if their class size is around 180-190...then there should be about 270-280 acceptances. If they accepted 500 people, then I think the would have the problem two years ago when the class was too full and nobody moved off the waitlist..but im just speculating.

Recently, they have been accepting about twice the number in the class, including those acceptance offers that are made to people on the waitlist. So, about 400 offers total out of about 1000 interviewed. The 400 offers are not all outright aceptances, a good portion of those do go to applicants on the waitlist. I'm not sure what porportion, however.

They've been having to give out less and less acceptances each year even though the number of spots in the class has been rising. That could be because the school is getting more competitive or because they are selecting more people who genuinely want to go to GW over other schools, or a combination of both.

I think this might have been answered already but is there one waitlist or is it separated into "high priority" and "regular" like some other schools? And do you find out which one you're on?

At least in past years: It is two lists, and letters were sent out sometime in March with different wording. The high priority one says something like "you are in a small pool at the top of the waitlist" while the other version doesn't mention anything about a smaller top pool. If you are on the waitlist and love GW, now would probably be a good time to let them know with a letter of interest/intent.
