Hello, I'm planning on applying to pharm schools again this summer and am thinking of taking the test for Pharm Tech Certification in July....I'm going to start a post bac in the summer as well so hopefully this will strengten my application...

I am wondering how difficult this exam is?? I am planning to study on my own.
How early should I start studying? and are there any specific study guides that you would recommend???

I would really appreciate some input...thanks a lot 🙂

find a study book and go over it for a few weeks, the exam is not very difficult if you study

I took and passed the last PTCB offered on March 11. The exam isn't difficult at all. Things you need to study are sig codes, measurement conversions, allegations, law (simple things, such as knowing the limitations of CII and CIII-V scripts, etc), brand/generics, side effects and uses for as many drugs as you can remember them for, etc. Also, I recommend you take the practice ptcb test (offered at www.ptcb.org for $29) as it's a good indicator of how prepared you are for the actual exam.

not hard; study the night before and you'll pass with flying colors.

Not too difficult. Each time they offer it, somewhat like 85% of people pass it. Study enough to know the laws, you have to know how to set up the math but you get to use a calculator. If you know some of the common drugs and their classes/generic names your golden too.

If you've ever worked in a pharmacy, it'll be easy. If you haven't, pick up a study guide and you should do fine. I passed the first time I took it, and I'd never worked in the field. Some of the law questions tripped me up, but otherwise it wasn't a big deal.
