I was wondering whether anyone been successful in asking for more money/aid?

For example, one school that I went to a lot of students mentioned that they made school X aware of what school Y has given them in hopes that school X will meet what was given by school Y :p

I know it probably depends on the school, but has anyone been successful at this? How did word you letter/correspondance?

yeah, i'm very interested if ne1 got this to work too?

Yes, it does work. It has worked for me and all I have done is gone into the financial aid office and complained that I did not get enough in grants. It's a stupid system, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Everything is negotiable, the financial aid counselors at most schools have tremendous amounts of power.

you didn't give a reason?
you just went and said "please...! i need more grants" and they just said "okay!" ????

i just got the ****tiest package from UChicago.
will this work on them?!?!?!

I heard this could be done only under the auspices of schools X and Y being comaparable in dare I say "US news rank", academic prestige, yada-yada-yada. For example, if you were choosing between Northwestern and Stanford and really wanted to go to NW but Stanford gave you the best package, NW would try and work with you...this is just what I heard from students at different med schools though.

will this work on them?!?!?!•••••Yes, that's pretty much exactly what I did. I know it sounds strange, but someone told me to do that for college and the person told me that I didn't deserve any more aid, but she gave me 400 more dollars in grants just for coming in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" /> I decided to do it for med school too, I originally had 3,000 in grants my first year, but I just went in and said that I wanted more money, and I got another 2,500. Then the next year, I think that they were annoyed that they gave me too much, so they took it all away and gave me nothing. So I went in and complained again, and they gave me 3,500 (the 500 was for interest for not giving me the 3,000 most students always get here  ) This year I just got the standard 3,000 in grants, but I have decided not to complain at the risk of looking "greedy". I know that it's a stupid, very corruptable system, but if you can't change the rules of the game, you might as well play by them. Oh, and showing them another school's more generous financial aid package is an excellent way to get more money too. Definitely do that, regardless of where the other school is ranked.
