I just went to an orientation today for volunteering and there were a few other people who are interested in pharmacy. So I am kind of worried about my chances of being a volunteer in the hospitals pharmacy because of the competition. So my second choice maybe volunteering in the NICU. Has anyone got into pharmacy school with experiance in something else besides pharmacy?

I volunteered in orthopedics in a hospital last summer. It doesn't matter what you do - the volunteer experience is what matters.

I volunteered in a hospice visiting with dying patients and their families.

Ditto. All of my volunteer work was done with my sorority in college.

Nothing related to pharmacy at all.

I have limited Pharmacy experience until up just about two months ago or so when I started working as a tech. Before this my volunteering experience is mostly in Emergency Department (4 years and counting). I believe that it is the best chance for *anyone* considering a career in health industry to start: you'll see various kind of patients and you get the hands-on experience on some of the most difficult of them in constant, stressful, time-consuming basis. Patients who come there are extremely demanding and if you can survive working in the ED, you'll survive anything, imho 👍

Same here with everyone else.... none of my volunteering work is related to pharmacy 1st year: prosthetic and orthopedics 2) nursing unit 3) ICU

pharm schools care about patient contact and healthcare too. volunteering in itself is great. but to get pharmacy experience, i work at a pharmacy as a clerk. OH and if you're worried, there's always a clinical pharmacist on the ICU floor. I started shadowing the one on the floor i volunteer at once a week. 😀 So you can do that too

I'm working in a research lab in my school right now.

I also volunteered in the ER.

i've never done any volunteer work and i got in.

I volunteered with the American Cancer Society and Habitat for Humanity mostly non-pharmacy organizations and I still got in. I guess have some type of experience with pharmacy best thing is a job.
