CA resident and I am Asian.
I have a 3.79 cGPA/3.65 sGPA at UCSD.
MCAT #1: 30R (9/9/12)
MCAT #2: 33R (11/8/14)

- Researched 1 + year. Not published.
- 400+ clinical hours
- 1000+ leadership hours (close to 1300 hours) as a Director (Volunteer position) at a hospital. Managed my own team. Worked here for 1 year & 3 months.
- Shadowed ~ 50 hours 2 years ago. No LOR.
- Phi Beta Kappa, Part of the Honors program at my college in UCSD
- Traveled to Peru as a Global Health Volunteer in 2009 for 3 weeks
- 3 very strong LORs (1 science prof, 1 non-science, 1 from boss at hospital). Going to get 1 more science LOR soon. Red flag: no LOR from my PI...we had a good relationship for a very long time but it soured at the end.
- Teaching Assistant for a biology course.
- Elementary school student mentor for the last 10 weeks
- Mentored freshman students at my university as well for about 1 year
- Volunteered once a month at retirement homes/hospitals by playing music with my family since 2000

Potential Red Flags: no PI LOR, low sGPA, low Verbal on MCAT (hate this because I was averaging an 11 BOTH times)

Any input on what my chances are for MD schools? Should I even bother applying to top 25 schools?!

Pretty good overall, but the MCAT for a top 25 + sGPA are going to run you into some trouble. Maybe send an application or two, but don't hold your breath. With some luck, in-state can happen.

Thanks for the reply! Is it my verbal score that will hold me back you think?

Your numbers look quite nice; I think you should no problem. Do NOT worry about the lack of aletetr from your PI..even post-docs sometimes don't have LORs from their graduate school PIs. We all recognize that sometimes professional relationships go sour.

Don't worry medical schools will see you scored a 9 last time so it's really not that bad.

Thanks for the assurance! I just can't help feeling that the lack of a letter may be brought up in a potential interview...you don't think my low sGPA will be a major problem?:(
