I wanted to start a new HICP thread so we could all start off on a new fresh slate.

My question is to all future HICP students. Has anyone out there already paid their full tuition to the school? How many of just applied for loans? Is everyone using EducationOne? Has anyone tried for a TERI loan yet? Any others? How much did everyone borrow? I know educationone the limit is $30,000, since tuition is $28,000 what is everyone doing for living expenses? Please everyone let me know what your experience has been when applying for loans to HICP. I am just curious what my options are and what everyone else is doing. I have applied through TERI and was approved, but because of certain circumstances don't know if I will use them or not. So I just want to hear what everyone's experience has been. Also, I know educationone sends the check directly to you (TERI sends it directly to the school), when do you plan on sending it on to the school? By the Sept 1st deadline or sooner?

Thanks Everyone & See You in Hawaii!
ALOHA!!!! 😀

I am getting extremely frustrated with the financing! I called Sallie Mae, South west loans, Bank of America, Education One, and Teri, and all of them told me that they would not approve a loan because Hawaii college of pharmacy is not in their approved list. I haven't applied for any loans because these places aren't willing to work with me at all because of HICP. Is there any advice from anyone? Where I could get a loan? Help!!!

I just got off the phone with Mr. Park at HICP and he said that he pulled HICP's name off of Education One & TERI & all others approved list. He said that if people haven't gotten their financing before the name was pulled they are on their own for loans. He advised people to find their own way of financing their schooling. Either through refinancing a house or getting money from parents. Well neither works for us because we don't own a house anymore because we sold it to go to school. Second...we (my wife and I) don't have rich parents who can loan this kind of money.

Mr. Park was very friendly about all of my questions. Maybe try and call and see if he tells you the same thing. Or maybe something new will come around. I don't know what else to do. 🙁

WTF??? What was his reasoning for pulling the school off that list?

quite honestly he didn't really give a reason. he just said that if people hadn't already done it then they were on their own. And there are no scholarships this year like their web site says.

Wow, um...that seems rather harsh. It doesn't make much sense to me, either.

Most people don't have loans together till about june or july and at most schools, the fin aid office does most of the work for you. I could only imagine the look on my parents face if I asked them to refinance their house!

Now I don't know what to do!!! My parents have nothing to do with my finances! I guess HICP will loose all of their hundred and some students to the great idea of dropping HICP off the list!!! Nothing they do makes much sense. 😱

This all seems really shady. Is it possible that the school as well as the student will be held responsible in some way by the loan places if the whole thing falls apart? That's the only reason I can think of that a school would take itself off the list. Why would you hang our students out to dry like that? Is it also possible that the school didn't take themselves off the list, but were instead removed by the loan places?

Did you find any places for your loan?

No not yet. Any suggestions anyone? I am getting worried!

im looking for one too. did HICP mention that they are finding new loan companies that students will be able to go through or do we have to come up with it our selves?

They said we have to come up with it ourselves! They suggested that my parents put a second mortgage on their home. Thats not going to happen so I don't know what to do. I will continue calling places this week so if I find a place I will post it on this forum!

Good luck you guys. Mr. Park told me the same thing. Mortgage my house or get it from my parents. Ya right! I was actually lucky though and applied through TERI a few weeks ago and they approved me before HICP pulled their names off the list. So I know there are a few people that got their loans through Education One or TERI before all these new changes. Good luck. I hope you find something.

From their website:

"The College does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, national origin, religion, handicap, marital status, or sexual orientation."

But it does discriminate based on economic status...who can just up and refinance their home (or ask their parents to do so?)

"Currently, the College works with a variety of private lenders to arrange loans for qualified students. Students must receive a letter of admission from the Admissions and Student Affairs Office before the College's Director of Financial can begin the financial aid process. In addition to working with students to obtain private student loans, the College also awards a variety of scholarships to qualified students based on merit and financial need."

Also, apparently, an outright lie. This place needs to put accurate information on their website and stop lying to people and then taking their money. The website is not up to date about their accredidation status, either.
