I just got through reading some information about kidney biopsies. It was somewhat helpful but did not answer some deeper questions I had. The material was reviewed by a urologist instead of a nephrologist and written by an RN. Wouldn't you think that the specialist in charge of this particular organ should be doing the review of information being used by the insureds of the insurance company (BCBS)? I felt I was being guided away from a biopsy to ultrasound because of expense. Since I have already had the biopsy, I see the important information that was gathered early in my case and because of early treatment I have avoided dialysis. I am in full remission from IGAN.
I am now going to avoid looking at the help area when deciding on tests and the like. I wish everyone was on a PPO so that they could make these choices without having someone stand in their way which could happen with an HMO. And even still, I feel there is a slant in information that is being handed out by the insurance company to all insureds. I feel at least a specialist in area of discussion should review material and not by another specialist.
