I attend a community college in upstate NY. I'm taking the pre reqs for dental school. I'm done with biology and did well in it. I really want to get the hell out of this community college as soon as possible. So I applied to SUNY at buffalo, UAlbany, Binghamton and Stonybrook university.

UAlbany and Stonybrook are asking for 2nd semester grades. And Buffalo has accepted me, Bing is saying that they want mid-semester grades. The admissions office at Buffalo told me that I should make a decision quick before all the dorms fill up.

But I really want to see If I get into any of the other schools.

Does it really matter which one of these 4 Universities I attend?

Do dental school admissions have a preference of any of these schools?

which one do you guys think will be better if i'm going for dentistry?

Just go to Buffalo. No sense in waiting for the other schools if you already have an acceptance unless you have a very compelling reason to do so. Check out the dental school at Buffalo if you go there. It doesn't matter which schools you attend. If you look at the class profiles of dental schools you will see some come from obscure colleges while others come from well known prestigious universities. Just take Buffalo and run with it. Regardless of where you go your grades will be the key and the DAT.

agreed.

@op as long as Buffalo is a relatively well known university, i dont see anything wrong with it.

i went to UC Riverside and i dont think many people heard of it? it is one of the smaller UCs?

maybe you should do some research behind the 4 universities and see which one you like more? if you like one of the other ones, then maybe wait?

Buffalo is the largest public university in the northeast...and it has a dental school. It would be advantageous to you to attend a school with a dental school as it offers opportunities for experience and to become familiar with the faculty.

Wow, you guys are quite helpful. I was expecting a lot of negative comments lol Thanks to everyone who gave feedback.

Go to Binghamton - it's supposed to be the crown jewel of the SUNY system I'm told.

I would actually go with Geneseo for that title...unfortunately, neither has a dental school

Our school is working real hard to become the official Honors college in the SUNY system. Its quite funny even seeing the transition from my freshman year to the current freshmen...apparently last years class had an average SAT of 1314. I certainly have seen a big dropoff in the partying undertaken by the new kids compared to years past. I am skeptical to say the least about this 'designation' but its smaller class sizes and very helpful professors (some of them) have let me have a great experience here.

Eliot Spitzer visisted and called us "A gem by any standard." That was exactly two days before news of his extracurricular activities became national headlines.:laugh:

binghamton (and maybe geneseo) are big for biochem, or at least they were way back when i was thinking of applying as an undergrad.

DUDE I didn't know there were other Geneseo students here! 😀

Go to Geneseo, they have a 3+4 program (3 years at geneseo, 4 years of dental school at buffalo) where admission to UB dental school is guaranteed if you get into the program. It's getting quite popular there from what I've heard, and as long as the program accepts you (its an interview through a UB representative) all you need is a DAT minimum of 18 AA and atleast a 3.0 each semester.

I never applied to that program because I honestly didn't want to see the same damn students I've seen for my college years. And honestly, I never though upstate was that awesome. But Geneseo is QUITE the experience, and its a LOVELY place. I will tell you that, when I was a sophomore (and I think the end of freshman year is when they enroll you in the buffalo dental program) there were only 2 students going to attend that school, and one dropped out. Now, there are atleast 10 enrolling each class, so its going to be more competitive.

Those numbers have changed. When I entered geneseo in fall 05, the requirements were (for all the 3-4s including UB, fredonia, st lawrence, utica college, lemoyne and geneseo) 20 AA, 18 PAT and 3.1/3.3/3.5 GPA (BCP also had to be the same GPA) for freshman/soph/junior years. Now it is 3.5 straight through.

Also when I entered there was the the early assurance program option after 2 years, finish my time at geneseo in the regular 4 years but have a slot in dental school at buffalo. But you did NOT need to take the DAT, simply maintain whatever GPA they had set out. Now you have to have a 3.5 all years and get that score on the DAT like the 3/4 kids.
