Hello all, I am pleased to meet you!

Discussion in 'Optometry' started by Eyegirl2007, Jun 30, 2002.

  1. Hello all you fellow pre-optometry students out there! (and everyone else).

I have a question: What does LASIK (and procedures like it) mean, in your opinion, for the future of optometry....?

Welcome, Eyegirl! There are a few fellow pre-optometry students in here (maybe more lurkers), and a few current students, too. It's great to have another future optometry student join us!

I take it by your screenname that you're applying for entering class of 2003? What schools will you be applying to?

Welcome to SDN Eyegirl! If you have any questions about school and the application process don't hesitate to ask. There are a few OD students lurking about and a few OD's lurking about. So, ask away!! We're all here to help!

Welcome Eyegirl2007, good luck in the application process :)

  6. Thank you for the warm welcome and the good wishes! I will be applying to SUNY, ICO, SCO, SCCO, PCO, and IU..I think that's all of them. Hopefully, the whole application process/interviews(!) won't cost tooooo much. If there are any SUNY students in here, I'd like to know what it's like to live in New York after Sept 11th. Is everybody walking around scared?

    Eyegirl2007,

I just moved to PA last week, but I'm from the nyc area, and there's nothing to worry about with regards to living in nyc. SUNY is located in a beautiful area of the city, right across from Bryant park. Of course, like every big city, keep alert. I heard that a lot of SUNY students live in Queens, b/c its less expensive.

If you have anymore questions about the applciation process, feel free to ask. I applied to basically the same schools you did, except IU. My only regret is applying to too many schools. As far as interviews, I decided to go to PCO, SUNY and NEWENCO. So, I can give you tips on those interviews. Good Luck :)

  8. Please give me information about what the SUNY Interview is like. I am not sure what to expect.
    As usual, thanks.

For me, the SUNY interview was the most formal one. The day begins by you writing a 1 page essay. Then, you wait until they call you, and you go into a conference-like room where you will be interviewed by 4 faculty memebrs. Some get interviewed by 3 faculty members. The faculty ask a number of questions about why you chose Optometry, why you would like to attend SUNY, what book you have read recently, etc...After the interview you meet a financial aid advisor and discuss the money aspect of school. Then you wait until everyone is finished interviewing (mabye like 4-5 people) and then you are given a tour of the school, as well as lunch. I thought the interviews at PCO & NEWENCO were more relaxing and less formal. Good Luck! :)
