hey guys, i guess there is not even a single forum related to pre medical students in canada that is filled with so many people like this one. therefore i hope it wont matter cuz the schools from both countries have pretty much the similar selection criteria and gpa cutoffs alongwith MCAT marks. do we need supernatural kind of involvement and accomplishments other than academics to be considered for medical school? i mean wat is the chance of a student with a gpa of 3.6 in some specialist program instead of double majors which are relatively easier to pursue, to get into medical school? and just suppose he does good on the mcat, scores above the cutoff. cuz on mdapplicants.com most of the students who got admitted had their gpa not less than 3.85. i got screwed up in first year due to my sociology elective and calculus credit, i got 4 in biology and chemistry but as it turns out, cumulative gpa was nowhere in the competitive range. so if i pursure a specialist degree in biochemistry or biotechnology and am able to score 4 in next 3 years, my overall 4 year gpa will not be able to cross 3.79 barrier. wat can i do? can some1 give me a good suggestion?

The profiles on mdapplicants.com are definitely not representative of the average applicant. A 3.6 is a competitive GPA, just do well on the MCAT and aim for a score in the 30's. I wouldn't say that you need "supernatural" activities, but you do need to have some good clinical experiences that will justify your desire to be a doctor. It also wouldn't hurt to have some research experience, especially if you are planning on applying to any top 20 schools which seem to be more research oriented.
