hello all. Ok I have a quick question. There is no doubt in my mind that i will take a break after i graduate undergrad before applying to dental school. Who knows how long, maybe ranging frim 1-3 yrs....but what about those teacher reccomendations. I mean teachers have lots of students so how would I go about asking for one when I would be out of school for a while (and possible forget who I am or think its rather random of me to ask). Lord knows I dont want to take additional science classes after graduation just to "get to know" a teacher ( but I will if i must!!! )Anyways, any of you out there who have been in the same situation where you were out of school for awhile...how did you get those LORs (from SCIENCE teachers).

I would speak to the professors you think you want recommendations from now, and let them know you are planning on applying to dental school within the next few years and are wondering if they'd be willing to write a recommendation for you. At this time you should also probably ask for their personal e-mail in case they leave the university and you don't know where they are!

Then, throughout your next few years, stay in touch with your professors. A quick update every few months will keep you in their mind. I would NOT lose touch with them. This could really be a problem if you are out 3 years and can't find anyone to write them!

I am out of college 3 years, but doing a post-bacc, so I'm using recommendations from my current professors. I *might* ask a professor from my non-science undergrad professor for the 4th recc, but I'm not sure yet. I've emailed back and forth maybe 3 or 4 times a year for the past 3 years and I'm sure they would remember me.

Hope that helps!

thank you for the advice!! VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!! 🙂
