Hello,

I am a freshman at the university of the pacific (UOP) a private school in california.

I am failing chemistry....my teachers sucks. I am not blaming him b/c it is actually my fault that i am doing bad or whatever, but the fact is that he sucks. we have 70 people in the class. almost all of them said (more than 50%) that they would drop the class, if they could. i have an F in the class and a D in lab. whatver u do in lecture reflects lab.

i have to take summer school for 2 sessons so i can repeat chemisry the first semester and take the second semester of chemistry, so i wont fall behind. Summe school is very expensive...it is $400 per unit....i have to take 10 units ( 5 the frist session and 5 the second session). In order to save money..i was wondering if i can take the first sem. of chemistry at the community college and have them sign the form of transferable untits or something and take the second sem. of chem at UOP? I heard that all pre meds have to take all their science and math courses at their home school and if say, i took ochem at a JC, then the addmissions committe will think that i took the easy way out and no wonder i got a a in the class and they wont accept me. is that true? do u think i should take 1st sem. chem at the jc and take second sem. chem at my home school? will it look bad on my application? i am doing that to save money, b/c it comes out to 4000...waaaay too expensive and the school costs 32K each year? please help...

can you take non-premed requirement during the summer at a JC and retake chem at your school next year?

hi silvereyes,

long time no see. How's it going this semester? Still hanging in there?

I wouldn't take chem at a CC. Fact is, assuming you do badly in this course, it will be obvious that you are going to a CC to boost your gpa.

I would probably suck it up and try to take it at the university, or at maybe a UC if you can. No matter how much you think your prof "sucks" however, you have to take at least some responsibility in your grade. Whether you will improve next time is entirely in your court. You're not the only one who's had "sucky" profs ... it's part of the game.

I agree with the advice already posted. Since you're doing badly, it would look suspicious to opt for the JC route. Moo is onto something with the UC idea though. You could save some money and still get the credits from a well-recognized school. Good luck.

I know what the problem is. You're in Stockton. Thats what the problem is. I feel really bad for you man.

And really, Delta is great and all, but it might look suspect if you took chem there.

It's not true that you have to take all your classes at your 'home' school. You can take them anywhere. But whether it is true or not, their is a belief that C Colleges are somehow easier.

You shouldn't take courses at community colleges. A 4-year college student taking a key premed class at a JC will raise a lot of questions. However, you are more than welcome to take classes at other 4-year schools. Maybe you can do summer school at Sac State or UC-Davis or Fresno State. I took three chem courses during the summer outside my home school, and no one cared during the interviews.

Thanks for all ur help.

yea..thats what i figured that it would seem a little fishy for me to take a chem class at a CC. oh well....i guess i have to take it at my home school. argh.sucks! anyway, today we have teacher evaluations.that guy is getting an F-! Thanks again...
