Hi everyone!

I’m a non-trad applying to MD and DO schools (but would prefer MD). I took a June MCAT and just got my score. Was a little weaker than I had hoped, but I'm optimistic that it won't exclude me from MD schools. Curious to hear your thoughts/suggestions!

Chem/Phys: 126, 67%
CARS: 127, 81%
BIO: 128, 87%
Psych/Soc: 126, 66%
Overall: 507, 74%

- NY resident, grew up in PA
- 3.69 cGPA; 3.82 sGPA, 3.93 post-bacc GPA
- Triple major Spanish, Psychology and PR from a big PA university
- High Spanish proficiency (non-native - I'm a Caucasian female, but time abroad in Madrid, DR, Argentina); intermediate Italian (lived in Rome for 3 months)

Experiences:
  • 2.5 years as a trainer at an EMR company - traveled solo to >25 practices nationwide and implemented the EMR with physicians and their staff
  • Currently work (about 1 year) as a research coordinator in Emergency Medicine research (clinical trial, direct patient contact in the ED and follow-ups)
  • 150 hours volunteering on an Oncology unit
  • 1 year teaching 4 total sections Organic Chem/Gen Chem labs
  • >60 hours shadowing (internal medicine, cardiology, ophtho, vein clinic)
  • other research: 4 (academic) years working in a developmental psych lab; 1.5 years, 2 conference presentations, 1 poster on a Spanish linguistics study in the U.S. and Argentina
  • Mentor to undergrad pre-health students at school where I did my post-bacc
  • 3 summers as a camp counselor for Autistic teens
  • 1 summer teaching a free ESL class to adults in my community
  • 4 years on the equestrian team in college

MD School list:

Jefferson
Penn State
Drexel
Temple
Commonwealth
UPenn
Pitt
Albany
Einstein
Buffalo
Hofstra
NY Medical College
Mount Sinai
NYU
Stony Brook
Downstate
Upstate
Quinnipiac
Georgetown
GW
USF
Tulane
Tufts
BU
U Maryland
Central Michigan
Michigan
Cooper Rowan

I know there are some reaches in the mix, but I'm realistically hoping for a lower tier school. Open to any suggestions and ready to cast a wide net!

Thanks guys!

You can remove Cooper, Maryland, Central Michigan, Michigan and USF as they are state schools that accept very few OOS applicants with your MCAT score. UPenn,
Sinai, NYU and Brown are far reaches with your MCAT. Additional schools where you have a chance for an interview with your stats include:
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin
St. Louis
Creighton
Vermont

You'll be competitive for low tiers but a 29-30 equilvalent MCAT isn't flying for any of these reaches you dream of. Don't waste money giving the big names donations they dont need.

Add Faha's schools. Cut Penn, Pitt, Hofstra, Mt Sinai, NYU, Boston U, Maryland, USF, Michigan, Central Michigan, VA Tech, Brown, Rowan. You'll be competitive for the NY state schools(apply to all of them).

Temple

Quinnipiac
WVU
Rosy Franklin
MCW
SLU

Albany

U VM
EVMS
All new MD programs except Hofstra, Central MI, Va Tech, FIU, FAU and UCF
Rush
Your state school(s).
Any DO school. Beggars can't be choosy

I'd really be happy to just get in anywhere, so thank you for the suggestions. Definitely applying to a lot of DO schools, too, and would be happy there as well. Thanks again!
