Hey guys, I need help deciding whether to go to SLU or Creighton. I looked at SLU's match list and it seemed a little better than Creighton's. However, I like the area of SLU that much, as it seemed a little dangerous to live around there. However, I could be way off so if someone who knows a lot about the area or st. louis univ. could let me know about the housing locations I would really appreciate it because I only visited for one day and did not spend much time looking around the school. I am leaning towards creighton right now but after looking at the matchlist i am uncertain. I liked the atmosphere at both schools.
One more thing; I recieved a fairly large scholarship from creighton (20K) so do you think that I shoould go to creighton so that when I apply for residency I can put that I got the scholarship. The money obviously helps but my parents will be paying my tuition and they said they wouldnt mind paying the extra money (if not, they would pay at least most of my tuition and I could loan out the rest). Anyways, I have to reply really soon to SLU so I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks so much!!! :)

I also think that SLU's matchlist has an edge over Creighton, but you made some very good points about the area, etc. If I were in your shoes, I would be leaning toward SLU, but I think that either way, you'll do fine.

The ground freezes in Omaha! <img border="0" alt="[Wowie]" title="" src="graemlins/wowie.gif" />

When I interviewed, I talked to some 3rd year who lived across the street from the school who had to drive 30 blocks out in the opposite direction because the road was so snowed in...

So, if you like bitterly cold weather, go Omaha. :p

Talk to most doctors out there and they will tell you the same thing...."go to the school that will keep you financially debt free." You don't want to be in debt forver, however...since you do have parents who can offset that, then it may not be too much of a factor as lets say state vs. private.

Some of the best clinical schools are those that are in urban atmospheres. SLU's hospital is a level 1 trauma center and granted, affords many opportunites during rotations among things. I would say that the surrounding area up to a perhaps, lets give the benefit of the doubt, 1/2 a mile radius is undersireable to live for the suburban student. That's not far at all yet I know quite a few people who live next door! So where to live? Some attractive neighboorhoods that are close by (less than 3 miles away) are the Central West End, Soulard, and South City. Many students live around there and are quite happy as there places are very safe. In addition, there are some extremely safe suburbs (and pretty ones at that) 12-15 min away via close highways.

I live in one of those suburbs in a townhouse and will subleasing my place soon till end of August for anyone who's interested. It's awesome but I have moved so I can room w/some buddies next year.

A buddy of mine went to Creighton and was from LA like me. He wasn't too happy. Omaha is cool..but I think St. Louis has more to offer. Just some positives..Creighton is pretty well respected too.

i've never been to saint louis, but i've got friends who go to school (undergrad and grad, but not medical) there, and they love it. i don't know if the medical school is in a different location from the university, but they think saint louis is a pretty cool place to live as a student.
