Help with letter of interest

I'm trying to draft a letter of interest to send off tomorrow, and I guess I have writer's block. I don't know how to start. I've been waitlisted at the school, which I want to acknowledge at the beginning of the letter, but somehow "First I would like to thank you for offering me a place on your alternate list" sounds horrific. Can anyone help me with starting out this letter? 🙄

i was asked for help with a similar letter by one of my friends, and i realized that to write a letter of interest you shouldn't really need help. your own experiences and feelings about the school should drive that letter if you are truly interested. that being said, i ended my letters with that kind of phrase. saying something like "i greatly appreciate the chance to interview etc...and thank you for the spot on the waitlist etc...i believe my qualities (insert ECs and/or qualities) would benefit the school etc...
