Hello

At this point I don't have medical insurance so i can't go to a doctor so i need your help.

I had lingering pain on my right knee for a year and yesterday...i thought,,,hmm. maybe i can handle a little hacksquat...so i did...a few hours later...i ended up with pain on my right knee but it was kind of a sharp pain when i try to bend my leg. Its a lot warmer than my left knee so i think there is inflammation.

when i bend my knee...i hear some crackling sounds.

did i tear my acl or something? I'm walking with a limp now b/c i can't put too much pressure on my leg...

thanks

Why don't you go to a free clinic or chc? You'll do yourself, and your knee, a favor by seeing an MD versus requesting anonymous, electronic medical advice.

Your profile says you are a student at U Penn. I suggest you go to your student health center. You should be covered through your tuition for routine assessment visits.

I agree with the others. Go see at least your student health center, although often times they can't do much. Easier said than done, but see what you can do about getting medical insurance. Or sometimes, you can speak to your profs (who are dr's) and they'll agree to a free consultation.

The crackling bit sounds like you might have an inflamed tendon - creaking and cracking usually is indicative of that, but it doesn't happen in the knee very much. Is there something you do that would cause repetitive strain in your knee?

I really would see a professional about this rather than relying on a medical Student website. Especially if it is as I said above, becaues untreated, it could lead to rather severe complications in the future.

As an uninsured student you should have access to your student health center as others have noted. If not, at the very least there are free clinics, which may be happy to help you.

I suggest you seek the advice of a qualified medical practitioner rather than at the hands of the posters here (regardless of level of qualifications).

best of luck to you.
