Help with Picking some Lower/Mid Tier Schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Great stats but I think your list is a little top-heavy. The NJs arent very forgiving to OOS and you seem too qualified for Drexel. Maybe add schools with MCAT averages 31-33 as back-ups. I have similar stats to you and applied to only east-coast. But some of the ones I applied to were UVM, Temple, George Washington, Albany. You could add Penn St, but I'm not sure the you would want to be around a culture like that.

With those stats and EC's, you'll probably get an interview at some of the schools on your list (i'm guessing...). I asked this same question and the advice I got was just to look through the MSAR for schools w/ lower stat medians and decide on schools that you would actually go to. I just added schools in areas that I would like to live.

sGPA: 3.79
cGPA: 3.83
MCAT: 37S

ECs: Pretty Basic
-2 years research with a manuscript in submission, several abstracts/posters and podium presentation
-250+ hours in hospital with about 40 being shadowing
-Volunteer coach with a high school basketball team and a private league team for children
-A week volunteering in a clinic in third world country
-Volunteer at elderly nursing home
-Mentoring at an elementary school

My head got filled up after talking to my PI who kept telling me not to bother with anything except the top schools so my list I applied to so far is:

UCLA
UCI
UCD
UCSF
USC
Stanford
Harvard
Yale
John Hopkins
Albany
Albert Einstein
Columbia
Creighton
George Washington
Georgetown
Loyola
NYU
NYMC
Northwestern
Penn State
St. Louis
Pritzker
Wash U
Boston
Rochester

Please help me pick some more realistic schools to add since my time is running short now. Thanks! What do you guys think about New Jersey schools or Drexel as a California resident?

Your list looks fine as it is, imo. (It just sucks being a CA resident). Then again, maybe my head got filled after talking to my PI/adviser/professors 😉

Also, it's Johns Hopkins -- sorry, pet peeve 🙂

Good luck!
