I posted this about a week ago but I seriously screwed up and am looking for advice. It's a bit of a story, so here goes.

Im in a bio 102 class which the grade is composed of 3 tests, no final, each test being worth 1/3 of the grade (tests cover roughly 150 pages of the campbell book). I ended up getting a 57 on the first test due to family problems at the time. In other words, I earned an F (note that I got an A- with the same prof the semester before, so I'm not a total slacker). I figure to get in the B- range, I would need a 90% on both other tests.

My next test is Monday, covering roughly 100 pages or so. The withdrawal deadline is also Monday. I would really not mind taking one C if I could. However, implications arise regarding my scholarship eligibility (big $13,000 scholarship), and a C may knock me out. Should I play it totally safe, withdraw, try harder next time (I am a 2nd sem freshman btw), or try to gamble and go for the B- by studying my balls off? Any help would be terrific.

I would say that a B- in a bio class (assuming you're premed) would hurt you down the line when you're applying for med school. If I were you, I'd withdraw and try again, and if they ask you why you have a W the first time around, tell the adcomms that you had family issues that procluded your ability to finish the class. But that's just me.

while you're at it, you should probably sign up for extra classes next quarter to show adcomms that you can work really really hard and still do good.
