Henna, please tell us about your experience.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi Meggs,
I didn't wait for the results I send in my applications way before the deadline. If you have made up your mind to get into a program then you should be prepared to take a fews risks.
Apply to almost all the schools that offer IDP ( International Dental Program ). It doesn't matter how your board scores turn up as there's nothing you can do about it right now so look ahead and do what is still possible ie apply to schools early and then send in the board scores as soon are you get them. If someone thinks they did badly in part 1 then it is to their advantage to send in the applications early as schools with rolling admission will consider their applications. Also if you are planning to apply to schools in CA it would be a good idea to practice for the didactic exam.
Just my 2 Cents !

Hi Heena,

Thanks for ur valuable input, but what we need to practice for exam? and where we can practice? and I know schools in CA only which offers IDP. Which other schools offers the same in US? Can you give us a URL for that? I had seen that some time ago but now not able to locate that ... I will put that if I am able to find the same.

😛

I just posted the link to all dental school in a different thread, please go through that website.

hi Henna,
can u please let me know what does the term" rolling admission" mean? also, please throw more light on how to practice didactic exam.
and yes, one more piece of advise would greatly be useful.
What according to you ,should be the mininum number of colleges that one can apply for the international dentist program ?(although I am aware of the fact that the more number of colleges one applies the better it is)
thanks in advance.

You can apply to all the schools you like right now without waiting for the results , you can start by working on applications with earlier deadlines.
I wouldn't worry about having a low GPA since they look at lot more data before deciding about any candidate.
I dont know much about statement of purpose as I didnt have it on my applications, you can call them up and ask them as to what they expect of you. I dont know of any particular website but Iam sure you will find a lot about it if you do a search and there is also a forum for essay on SDN itself.

Rolling admissions is something like a ' first come first served basis ' the applications are reviewed as and when they are receive it, they dont wait for deadlines or review all the applications at the same time. So if a candidate has a score of 95% or above but applied late will not be guaranteed admission as they would have already filled the spots..
Most topics like the didactic exams/ practice have already been discussed to no end previously so I find it a bit monotonous to repeat it again and again so please do try to use the search feature to look into previous threads. In short, you can contact dental schools for permission to practice in their lab or you can rent a compressor and practice at home or find a dental clinic that is willing to accommodate you after hours or weekends.
There is no magic number that you should apply to, if cost is your main concern then apply to schools that offer ID program and avoid the space based programs.
