Hello, I was notified that I need Hep B vaccination before registration. However, I have plans to go abroad which may interrupt my vaccination. So, I was wondering if there is anyone that can tell me how Hep B Vaccination works, how long it takes, hoow many shots it takes, etc.

Thanks in advance!

The Hepatitis B vaccine includes 3 seperate shots. The first shot, then the second shot is a month after the first shot. The third shot is 4 months after the second shot. If you intend to travel between shots, notify your doctor. It is best to complete these vaccinations before enrollment so that you will not miss out on any lab exercises.

The hep B vaccination takes 3 shots. The second shot follows the first after approx. 30 days, and then the third 4 months after that. Most schools only require the first two before school starts, so check to see what your exact situation is.

If I remember correctly, although the third shot is recommended four months after the second, I think there's a pretty long time frame during which you can get it and still have it work. You should double-check on this, but I remember being told that the first two are required for shorter term protection, but the last one will confer (basically) lifetime protection. Or am I thinking of something different?

Anyways, I don't think I got my third shot until six or seven months after the second, and I was told that would be no big deal. Lemme know if I've been misinformed.

I got the series of shots last year from my employer (doctor) and schedules was: series of 3 shots, 2nd shot is a month after the first one and 3rd shot is 6 months after the first one.

I just checked the 2002 PDR and that's the recommended administration for Engerix-B (made by GlaxoSmithKline).

The third shot for Hep B series can be given 4 to 18 mo after the first.

I'm pretty sure I got my 2nd shot almost 2 mo. after the first. I had time scheduling it because I was getting it for EMS work and they would pay for it, but only for like 2 hours on certain days. Anyway, they didn't care that much and I had to get Ab titer tested before med school and it was good.

The schedule for your shots depends on the type of vaccine used by the doctor/nurse or clinic you go to. The most common vaccine type requires shots at 1 month with 2nd needle the next month nad third needle 4-6 months after. Some vaccine types are a shorter series..only two shots instead of three. The minimum time between shots needs to be at least 4 weeks but a vaccine series does not need to be restarted if there is an extended period between the shots in the series......hope this answers your question😀

Well, here is something interesting: I got my first two shots back in the second year of college, which is exaxtly 7 years ago, and I completely forgot about the third booster shot. Now I am about to start med school this fall, and I have no clue whether to repeat all my shots or just take the third shot. I doubt a 7-year interval between shots will be acceptable. Likewise, for my tetanus booster shot, which was meant to be taken 10 years after the first two, and of course, I forgot about that as well (2001 was the end of that 10 year period). Now what should I do?

hey, I was wondering about this myself. I had the hep vaccination I think in the early to mid 90s. but I was wondering if I needed a booster shot or something.

k, I'm sure somebody can give you a more technical answer, but if you are unsure of your status in general you can get a titer to see if you need to retake the series or not.

Technical answer is exactly that. Get a titer done, it's cheaper than revaccination. If you show immunity, you are fine, if not you need to do a series of 3 shots.

I just recently got my 3rd shot like a month ago and the gap between my 2nd and 3rd shot was like 2.5 years. I just got a titer done and it came out positive (have resistance to HpB).
