Here's one for the big kids: Residency Matching and Competition

i am unable to find any info. on how exactly the residency matching system works - can anyone enlighten me or provide a link?

also, is there a competitive spectrum with residencies? for example, is getting into a psychiatric residency that has 1 spot at johns hopkins exponentially harder than a pharmacy practice residency in montana (no offense montanians).
i would think (or know) it would be, but could anyone sort-of quantify this for me?
