Hello everyone, I am a sophmore and a pre-med student. I already took my english and reading classes but still have some classes to take in Biology, Chemistry and Physique. I am actually planning to take my mcat in 2 years. Should I start practising for it now and how? Also does anyone know about the medical school at University of Arizona? Is it too competitive to get in?
Thanks.🙄

Hi,
no, you don't need to start studying for mcat right now. You need to take classes in gen. bio, chem, physics, and also organic chemistry. Right now, just focus on getting your premed classes done and then start studying for MCAT, when you get done with those classes. No need to start stressing over MCAT 2 years before.

Hey Dr Lady, thanks for your advise. The thing is I already took some classes in Bio and Chm and my GPA now is 3.76, so I don't have to worry about the mcat now?

I assume, you have yet to take organic I & II and you said in your first post, that you have to yet take physics I & II, right? Take those first. MCAT consists of Bio, chem, physics, orgo and verbal. So you want to take those subjects to get a full understanding in order to study for mcat. Dont worry about the MCAT right now. If you finish your phys, orgo by the end of Junior year, you can study for mcat in senior year April or August. You will be fine. Your gpa sounds great as well.

Thanks Drlady for your advise. I appreciate it. Are you a med student? if not what's ur major and what school are you considering going?😉

You are welcome 🙂 No, I am not a med student. I am taking mcat this april and applying to med this spring. What school? I would love to stay in Chicago, as I like UIC, but right now, I am just focusing on getting one thing done: MCAT.

My Physique was perfect, and then I spent all those hours in the library cramming for my premed classes while wolfing down Mountain Dews and Snickers.

I know what you mean...it is starting to get to me...a granola bar here, choclate pretzels there...i just keep thinking after this is over i won't be able to look at myself 😱

I have not applied to the University of Arizona, but having researched it, it does not sound like a school that is "too competitive to get in". First of all, they only accept Arizona residents, so that helps if you are one of the better in-state applicants. Second, it is not rated in the top, at least according to the US News rankings. That's all I know about it, but I'm an undergrad there now and don't perceive the quality as being very competitive. Maybe the med school is different. Try reading this thread about U of A. It says some things about the medical school there.
