How can you tell the difference between dense regular CT and smooth muscle on histo slides? Thanks!

Ever seen a nucleus in a chunk of connective tissue? They don't really look much alike. But if you're having trouble the best bet is to look at lots of slides of both, and try to identify the differences, like those newspaper games :)

Fibrocyte nuclei will have a more "twisted" appearance; smooth muscle nuclei will be much smoother and more rounded.

You'd be amazed what looks alike when your school decides to save money by having a grad student make your slides.
