I came across a question (not on UW or anything official) that required one to know the function of the net protein. It decreases exp of MHC I, among other functions. In the past I think I've seen something about tat protein (regulates expression of reverse transcriptase I believe). Anyway, i'm wondering if its considered even moderate-yield (certainly not high-yield) to learn these protein functions.

In my limited experience, UWorld Q's on HIV haven't asked about them yet. And as I'm sure you know, they're not in FA...I probably won't bother.

The only non-FA thing UWorld has asked me about the HIV genes so far is what the clinical manifestation would be upon mutating one of the genes. Wasn't too unfair a question.

Yes, it's the Nef factor that decreases the expression of MHC-I and increase the severity of disease. If patients are affected by a Nef -ve virus they can run a prolong and less severe course of disease.
